Netflix has offered wannabe master criminals the chance to steal a real nine-carat diamond – but there’s a catch. The pricey stone, which can fetch as much as £750,000, was erected on a billboard on Clapham High Street to promote the release of The Diamond Heist, a docuseries on the attempted robbery of the world’s second biggest diamond in 2000.

The co-produced Guy Ritchie true crime series tells the story of the attempted theft of the £350m 203.4-carat Millennium Star Diamond from the perspective of the South East London criminals behind it. However, the streaming giant warned would-be thieves the Clapham diamond will be hard to get your mitts on.

A Netflix spokesperson said: “The billboard debuted this morning on Clapham High Street with the 9-carat diamond affixed to the billboard in a specially lit display case. But those with itchy fingers may want to divert any devious plans, as the billboard is being surveilled with CCTV cameras and two onsite security guards.

“Besides, who would be audacious enough to steal a diamond on one of the busiest high streets in South London? The Diamond Heist, co-executive produced by The Gentleman’s Guy Ritchie and Emmy-winning producers, Lightbox, is a three-part documentary series exploring the events leading up to the attempted heist of the world’s second largest diamond – the Millennium Star Diamond in 2000.

“Orchestrated by a group of South East London criminals, they were moments away from pulling off the biggest diamond heist in world history, had it not been for the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad who had eyes on their every move.

They added: “The series features Lee Wenham, a key member of the London group that attempted the heist, as well as his daughter Beth Wenham, Detective John Swinfield, Martin Heslop KC, and Neil Wallis.

“The diamond will be displayed on the billboard from 16-23 April. The Diamond Heist is available to watch on Netflix.”

Meanwhile, a sequel to Netflix’s Adolescence may be possible thanks to Brad Pitt. The Hollywood actor’s production company Plan B Entertainment is reportedly in the early stages of discussing a second season of the smash hit show.

Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner spoke to Deadline about the idea and revealed that they are speaking about the “next iteration” with director Philip Barantini.

Gardner said that Plan B are thinking about how they can “widen the aperture, stay true to [the show’s] DNA [and] not be repetitive”. However, she did not reveal any further details about specific plans for the potential upcoming project.
