Swedish actuality present descends into bickering row after influencer ‘offends’ her pal by telling her she clothes ‘like a British woman’
A Swedish reality TV star has caused a storm on social media after taking offence when a stranger mistook her for being British due to her outfit.
With Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney hailing from the UK, it might seem like Britons know a thing or two about fashion.
However, influencer Hanna Friberg of Swedish reality TV show Girls of Stockholm doesn’t agree, after she was left ‘offended’ when someone thought she was British while she was in Ibiza on holiday.
The show, which is unavailable in the UK, follows four of Sweden‘s most prominent influencers, including Lovisa Worge, Klara Elvgren, Alice Stenlöf, and Hanna Friberg.
Content creator Kirsty Walsh, who is from the UK but now lives in Sweden, shared a clip of the show’s surprising moment on TikTok.
Cast member and influencer Lovisa Worge explained, ‘Hanna told me that in Ibiza, someone thought she was from the UK. It’s the worst compliment you can get, stylistically’.
Recalling the comment directed at Hanna, Lovisa said, ‘When I saw your style, I thought you were from the UK’.’
She later recalled Hanna’s reaction, saying, ‘She was so offended,’ adding, ‘It’s not fun.’

Content creator Kirsty Walsh (pictured) has created a tense conversation on social media after sharing a Girls of Stockholm clip where a cast member was offended because someone thought she was British due to her style
Sharing the clip with her followers, Kirsty asked, ‘Are British people really known for being so bad at fashion that a Swede would be offended if they said they looked like they were from the UK?
‘I know that us Brits have a bad reputation abroad, but I didn’t realise our fashion was offensive. What do you think?’
The video received a mixed reception, with one writing, ‘Stockholm fashion is X 500 worse. They all look the same.
However, another agreed with Hanna, adding, ‘As a fellow Scandi who lives in London, I get massively offended when someone thinks I’m English.’
A third wrote: ‘The stereotype of British fashion being bad is sadly directed primarily towards lower income women. I would say London fashion doesn’t look too different from elsewhere in Europe.’
A fourth added: ‘Stockholm has a uniform. They all dress the same. It’s no longer a style if they all look the same. The aesthetics is one (same) on every girl.’

The Swedish influencer (pictured), who boasts over 260 thousand followers, was upset after being told that she looked British
After her first video received over 800 thousand views, Kirsty revisited the topic in a second clip.
She said: ‘So the clip that I made from Girls of Stockholm has gone viral because I was so surprised that so many Swedes and people from all around the world would be offended if someone said that they look like they’ve come from the UK.
‘I’ve been living in the Sweden for five years now but I’m from the UK, and I would say that the biggest difference in Swedish and British fashion is that Swedish fashion is very minimalistic.
‘However, there’s less room with trends, so right now I feel like I see every single person wearing low waisted jeans and a strappy top, which is lovely, it’s just that my body can’t handle low waisted jeans anymore.’
She continued: ‘UK fashion is just a little bit all over the place. We definitely have trends, but we’re more colourful and more brash.
‘I also think it’s very dependent on which country you’re living in. For example, when I was living in the UK, I also went out in short dresses and I wore high heels, and my tan was very dark.
‘So, it’s all about the society that you’re in and the friends that you’re seeing. Maybe people in the UK would think that the Swedish style is not for them.’
She concluded the video by asking her followers their thoughts on the topic, with one writing: ‘As a Brit living in Sweden, Sweden has zero individuality.

Viewers took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the differences between British and Swedish fashion
‘Everyone wears the same thing, and all trends followed immediately – you never see goths, hippies etc. The UK is so much more fun and expressive.’
A second added: ‘I also think that it’s not just the clothes, a lot of us Swedes also think about the way UK girlies do their makeup, which is just not the way we do it here.’
A third wrote: ‘The UK is more make up, more fake tan, cheaper fabrics, less quality overall and it stands out’.
Another said: ‘That was heavy generalisation, in London and the UK we’ve got high fashion all over, freedom of style, and what’s cringe today might trend tomorrow.’
