BREAKING ‘Explosion’ rocks main UK metropolis as flames and black smoke ‘erupt’ throughout rush hour

London’s skyline has been dramatically changed after a huge fire erupted during rush hour. The blaze was seen from Warwick Avenue, causing smoke to flow across the entire capital.

According to London’s Fire Brigade, the source of the fire was at an electrical substation on Victoria Passage in Westminster, and it saw 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters descend on the area.

A spokesman said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a fire at an electrical substation on Victoria Passage, Aberdeen Place near Paddington NW8.

“Crews are on scene extinguishing the fire. There is a considerable amount of smoke which is making it a very visible fire. The Brigade’s 999 Control officers have received around 73 calls alerting them to the blaze.”

And Station Commander Paul Morgan, who is at the scene, said: “This is a very visible fire and there is lots of smoke. Residents are advised to keep their windows and doors shut.”

The Brigade was called at 0529 and is still on scene. Fire crews from Paddington and Euston fire stations are in attendance. One of the Brigade’s turntable ladders and a bulk foam unit are being used at the incident.”

Fire crews from Paddington and Euston fire stations are also in attendance, and a spokesman said on Twitter/X: “We’re on scene and extinguishing a fire at an electrical substation on Victoria Passage NW8 in Westminster. It’s a very visible fire causing heavy smoke, which has prompted 41 calls to our 999 Control officers.”

The fire could be seen across London, as concerned locals took to social media to post images and videos of it. One said: “Smoke from the Westminster substation fire in London seen rising behind Big Ben.”

Another posted: “Nasty looking fire north of Marylebone this morning.”

There are no reports of causalities or power outages in the area so far, but the Daily Star has reached out to the London Fire Service for an update. The root cause of the fire has also not yet been made public.
