Meghan Markle breaks settlement with late Queen on ‘Megxit’ rule as she makes use of banned title
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was seen using her HRH title on a gift card – going against an agreement with the late Monarch Queen Elizabeth as part of Megxit rules
Meghan Markle has been caught out using her ‘HRH’ title on a gift card, which is a big no-no according to the Megxit agreement with the late Queen Elizabeth. The Duchess, aged 43, sent a swanky gift hamper to a podcast host, with a card that read: “with the compliments of HRH, Duchess of Sussex”.
The Duchess of Sussex spilled the beans on a range of juicy topics, including her kiddos and her latest business venture, As Ever, during her first-ever podcast interview with Jamie Kern Lima, the boss behind IT Cosmetics.
The whole drama around Harry and Meghan dropping their ‘HRH’ titles kicked off at the so-called “Sandringham Summit”, or “Megxit” as the media loves to call it – a major pow-wow that went down on January 13, 2020, at Queen Liz’s gaff in Norfolk.
This Royal rumble had the top dogs of the family – Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry – hashing it out over the Sussexes’ bombshell decision to ditch their senior Royal duties. Meghan joined the chinwag via speakerphone from Canada, where she was holed up with little Archie.
Kate Middleton and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, didn’t get an invite to this exclusive club, as it was just for the bosses of the four Royal households. At the end of the day, it was decided that Harry and Meghan would give up their fancy ‘HRH’ monikers, reports the Mirror.
The couple announced on their official website: “As agreed and set out in January, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will retain their ‘HRH’ prefix, thereby formally remaining known as His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer actively use their HRH titles as they will no longer be working members of the family as of Spring 2020.”
On January 8, the duo revealed on Instagram their decision to “step back as ‘senior’ members” of the British Royal family. The late Queen issued a statement at that time, expressing her support for their wish to start a new life, although she would have preferred them to stay as full-time working royals.
Other significant outcomes from the Sandringham Summit included a transition period allowing the Sussexes to split their time between the UK and Canada. This arrangement provided them with the opportunity to lead a more independent life while still being part of the Royal family.
Harry and Meghan also expressed their intention to become financially independent, renouncing public funds and the Sovereign Grant, which had previously funded their official duties.
The couple agreed to stop using their “Royal Highness” titles and to relinquish official military appointments. They also stated they would no longer participate in the Royal Rota media system, aiming for greater control over their public image.
In the chat, Meghan was all about bigging up her hubby for having her back as she kicked off her new venture and took a trip down memory lane to the start of their love story, when they were on the QT.
She gushed over those first-date feels being like “butterflies” but spilled the tea that once the cat was out of the bag about them being an item, it was like they “went into the trenches together.”
