A woman’s front yard turned into a ‘rubbish heap’ has sparked outrage among neighbours who claims the clutter is luring rodents.

Sharon Cochrane’s bungalow in Hunstanton, Norfolk, has become an unsightly mess, with broken furniture, home appliances, and bags of waste piling up.

The chaotic mound, which even features a supermarket trolley brimming with groceries, is sprawling onto the footpath by her property in the charming Victorian seaside resort.

Locals are fuming, saying the mess tarnishes their neat cul-de-sac of bungalows close to the promenade and is a magnet for pests.

One neighbour vented: “It stinks, there are rats and it’s dangerous. There are children walking past and it could fall onto the pavement at any time, and then there’s the fire risk.

“It lowers the tone of the whole street. If people want to sell their houses it’s going to lower the price.”

West Norfolk Council has now slapped a legal notice on Ms Cochrane, demanding she clears the rubbish off her land. She’s got until May 20 to challenge the order, after which she’ll have a week to sort the mess out.

Failing to comply could see the council step in to clean up and bill her for the trouble. A council spokesperson chimed in: “We are aware of the issues raised and continue to work with all parties.”

Back in 2009, a Google snap shows the property looking spick and span with a well-kept garden. By 2023, rubbish had started to accumulate around the house and the pile has grown since then.

Ms Cochrane was unavailable for comment.

In another part of the UK a suburb has been left ‘looking like a landfill‘ and locals are absolutely furious at having to put up with it.

Photos taken in the parts of Ibrox in Glasgow, Scotland, show just how bad the areas’ fly-tipping issue is. Streets such as Kintras Street, Iona Street and Columba Street show just how out of hand the issue is with streets overflowing with rubbish.

Lorraine Hargen, 74, says despite her becoming accustomed to fly-tipping in the area for over 50 years, lately it is the worst it has ever been.

On the rubbish she said: “There’s rubbish and junk around corners and down streets. I have seen things like washing machines and just bags of rubbish. I have grandkids that come here, and I don’t want them near here, especially for health reasons”

Lorraine is conscious that the massive abundance of trash in the area could potentially attract unwanted visitors.

“One of my biggest concerns is the attraction of rats. We have seen them further down the street. I am terrified they will come here, but I know they will.”
