Keir Starmer house fireplace LIVE: Police investigating blaze at Prime Minister’s house

Police have launched an investigation after a fire broke out at Keir Starmer’s home in north London in the early hours of this morning.

The London Fire Brigade attended the Prime Minister’s property after reports of a fire shortly after 1.30am. The door to the property was damaged, but nobody was hurt. The home has been targeted repeatedly by protesters.

The Metropolitan Police said: “On Monday, 12 May at 01:35hrs, police were alerted by the London Fire Brigade to reports of a fire at a residential address in Countess Road, NW5 Officers attended the scene. Damage was caused to the property’s entrance, nobody was hurt.

“The fire is being investigated and cordons remain in place while enquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 441/12 May.”

PM thanks emergency services

Asked about the fire, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “I can only say that Prime Minister thanks the emergency services for their work and it is subject to a live investigation. So I can’t comment any further.”

20 minutes between fire brigade call and fire being ‘under control’

The Fire Brigade managed to get the blaze under control after around 20 minutes of being first called. Two fire engines attended the scene.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a small fire outside a property in Kentish town this morning. The Brigade was called at 01.11 and the fire was under control by 01.33. Two fire engines from Kentish Town Fire Station attended the scene.”

Police have opened an investigation into the fire

Police have opened an investigation into a fire at Keir Starmer’s house in north London.

A police cordon and officers, as well as investigators from London Fire Brigade, could be seen outside the Kentish Town property, after a fire in the early hours of Monday. At one point, a length of the street was cordoned off to all vehicles.

Mr Starmer is understood to still own the home, but lives at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Downing Street.
