Leeds advised mistake they can not repeat and dream signing to remain in Premier League
Sam Allardyce has told his former club Leeds United what they must do to ensure Premier League survival and offered transfer market advice to Daniel Farke
Sam Allardyce has urged former club Leeds to spend big to survive in the Premier League next season.
Leeds have returned to the top flight for the first time in two seasons, having won the Championship title. But Daniel Farke is expected to make wholesale changes to his squad as he looks to strengthen this summer.
Leeds have been linked with a host of possible targets, including Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips and Everton striker Beto.
And Allardyce reckons the Yorkshire club have to think big, to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
He believes Leeds should make a move for former England striker Jamie Vardy, who is leaving Leicester at the end of the season.
The former England, Newcastle and Bolton boss told the Footy Accumulators ‘No Tippy Tappy Football podcast’: “If you’re going to play tippy tappy football, you’re not going to pay to his [Vardy’s] strengths.
“Because he runs in behind better than anybody else, so you can’t be playing it into his feet because it’s not his strength.
“However, recruitment will be the hardest problem because there are not enough players available worldwide to keep you in the Premier League, especially goal scorers and frontmen.
“That’s why Vardy might be a valuable commodity, because there’s not a great bunch of them worldwide anymore.
“You can’t keep going out for those £4million signings. Somewhere along the lines Leeds are going to have to spend.
“This is where clubs have previously been relegated, because they’ve spread the budget for seven or eight players, and they’re not good enough.”
