Nissan to put off 11,000 extra jobs than feared – taking complete variety of roles axed to twenty,000
Nissan will axe 11,000 more jobs than feared – taking the total number of roles cut to 20,000.
The Japanese car maker is planning to lay off 15 per cent of its workforce as part of a major restructuring drive.
Nissan is yet to confirm whether jobs at its Sunderland factory – which employs 6,000 workers – are at risk.
Car manufacturers are reeling from Donald Trump’s tariff wars. Nissan has endured a tough period – the group last year described itself as being ‘on the brink of collapse’ with just ‘12 months to survive’.
In November, the Yokohama-based firm said it would cut 9,000 jobs after sales fell in America and China, its two biggest markets.
Nissan did not comment.
