Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is under immense pressure having struggled since making the move to Old Trafford but he could still win the Europa League
Ruben Amorim has performed a staggering U-turn and vowed not to quit Manchester United. And Amorim insists United would have to sack him in order for him to depart the fallen giants.
Amorim stunned club bosses in the wake of last weekend’s home defeat to West Ham by suggesting he might not be the right man to lead United long-term. But Amorim has moved to explain his comments, insisting he will not walk away from United despite his side’s woeful season.
Yet the Portuguese does admit the decision could be taken out of his hands unless results improve. He said: “I’m far from quitting. What I’m saying is we need to perform, or else they will change us. That is a normal thing.

“What I’m saying is that since I arrived here, I’m always talking about the standards. I cannot see the team having these results in the Premier League. and not take responsibility.”
Amorim has also revealed why he paid for 30 of his backroom staff to take their families to next week’s Europa League final against Tottenham in Spain.
The United boss put his hand in his own pocket after being told by the club that his coaches, physios and wider support team would have to pay for tickets for family and friends to attend the final in Bilbao.
He added: “You know that we have a lot of things – people leaving and a lot of changes in the staff. The situation was explained to me and my reaction was to help. It’s not going to change my life.
“Then we talked to the players and they had the same reaction. Everyone does – they want the staff and their families at the final.”
Amorim, meanwhile, has been left sweating on the fitness of injured defenders Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.
The duo will not travel to Chelsea for Friday night’s league game, and will be given as long as possible to make themselves available.
