Donald Trump’s private remarks revealed his genuine admiration for King Charles during his UK state visit with First Lady Melania Trump. The American leader and his wife were welcomed by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, making Trump the first US President to receive two state visit invitations to Britain.

During their stay, the Trumps joined senior royals for a state banquet in St George’s Hall, where the 79-year-old President was spotted deep in conversation with the monarch.

Lip-reader Jeremy Freeman captured a telling exchange between the pair when Trump was overheard telling the 76-year-old King: “It’s so incredible, it’s what you do so well.”

Speaking at the banquet, Mr Trump declared being invited for a second state visit represented the “highest honour” of his lifetime, whilst cheekily adding he hoped it would be his “last” official tour, reports the Express.

The President also reflected on Anglo-American relations, suggesting the term “special relationship does not begin to do it justice” when describing the bond between the two nations.

Mr Trump highlighted how both countries share rich cultural ties through language, tradition, and heritage – connections he knows personally, given his mother Mary Trump hailed from Scotland. It’s Mary who is believed to have ignited Mr Trump’s fascination with the Royal Family.

She’s reported to have maintained a scrapbook filled with photographs of the late Queen Elizabeth II and her sister, Princess Margaret.

Throughout his stay, Mr Trump has heaped praise on the royals, particularly singling out Prince William whom he branded a “good guy” and “remarkable”.

He declared: “I just want to say that His Majesty has raised a remarkable son and his Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, [is] really amazing, and I’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have unbelievable success in the future.”

Mr Trump also commended the King for his dedication to connecting with attendees at functions. He noted: “I just stood in line and shook about 150 hands and the King knew every single person and every single company, I was very impressed with that.”

Following yesterday’s grandeur and ceremony at Windsor Castle, Mr Trump will pivot to political matters today. He’s set to journey to Chequers – the Prime Minister’s countryside residence – for talks with Sir Keir Starmer in a closed-door session.

This encounter will be succeeded by a joint press briefing and a corporate gathering alongside Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

He’ll subsequently rejoin Melania, who’s been lodging at Windsor, before departing for Washington DC aboard Air Force One.
