Woman ‘upskirted’ on London Underground escalator as police launch manhunt
British Transport Police released an image of a man wearing grey jogging bottoms and a white t-shirt, after a woman was ‘upskirted’ while travelling on a London Underground escalator
Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly “upskirted” a woman on a London tube station escalator.
The grim incident occurred at Moorgate tube station around 5.49pm Tuesday, September 9 when the man allegedly took a photo underneath the woman’s clothing without her consent, according to the British Transport Police. Authorities have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may be crucial information in relation to the incident.
British Transport police issued a statement alongside the suspect’s photo. “Do you recognise this man?” they wrote. “Officers investigating an incident of upskirting at Moorgate Underground station have today released this image in connection.
“At around 5.49pm on Tuesday 9 September, a woman was standing on an escalator when she was upskirted. Officers believe the man in the image may have information which could assist their investigation.
“Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 693 of 9 September.”
The image shows a bearded man wearing glasses with grey jogging bottoms and a white t-shirt.
An upskirting offence involves secretly taking a photograph or video underneath someone’s clothing without them giving consent.
The contentious actor Laurence Fox is awaiting trial in relation to an upskirting case. Fox has been informed that his trial may not commence until 2027, following charges of allegedly sharing an upskirting photo of TV personality Narinder Kaur.
Fox is accused of re-sharing the image, taken in 2009, on his X account in April of the previous year, and he entered a plea of not guilty at an earlier hearing this year.
The photograph depicts former Big Brother star Narinder, who has chosen to waive her right to anonymity, exiting a taxi. The image was captured without her consent or knowledge.
Laurence, now 47 and with an unsuccessful political career behind him, made an appearance at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday (June 12) for a pre-trial hearing, accompanied by his partner Elizabeth Barker.
A provisional four-day trial date of December 6, 2027, was set for Laurence at the same court, Woolwich Crown Court. He was granted bail to appear at another case management hearing scheduled for November.
Fox faces two charges under section 66A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
The first charge dates back to April 30, 2024, when he allegedly “intentionally shared a photograph which showed, or appeared to show, another person, namely Narinder Kaur, in an intimate state, with the intention of causing that person alarm, distress or humiliation”.
The second claim suggests that the father-of-two “intentionally sent” a photograph of Narinder’s genitals “intending that the person or another person would see…and for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, and being reckless as to whether that person would be caused alarm, distress or humiliation”.
