Trump Goes Viral With ‘Extremely Hilarious If Not So Extremely Dangerous’ Habeas Corpus Answer

Donald Trump was asked at Wednesday’s White House roundtable that included far-right content creators ― and had Trump’s antifa bogeyman as the subject — if he’d “given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus to not only deal with these insurrectionists across the nation but also to continue rapidly deporting illegal aliens.”
“Yeah, uh, suspending who?” the president replied.
The questioner repeated, “Uh, habeas corpus, sir.”
“Oh, I don’t know. I’d rather leave that to Kristi. What do you think?” Trump said, punting the question to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
“No, sir, I haven’t been a part of any discussions on that,” Noem replied.
On social media, critics mockingly suggested Trump thought he was being asked about suspending a person and not the constitutionally enshrined protection from unlawful detention.
“President Non Compos Mentis has no idea what the writ of habeas corpus is,” said conservative attorney George Conway.
Another commenter described the moment as “extremely hilarious if not so extremely dangerous.”
