Man stopped disabled girlfriend from utilizing rest room for five days and ‘hid the john roll’

Jack Preston, 29, was so controlling towards his bed-ridden girlfriend he banned her from going to the toilet for five days, even ‘hiding the loo roll’ from her

A man who forbade his bed-bound girlfriend from using the toilet for five days has been imprisoned. Jack Preston, 29, subjected his disabled partner to up to 120 hours of discomfort by hiding the toilet paper and instructing her to ”hold it in”.

When she was finally permitted to use the bathroom, the ordeal reportedly left her ”paralysed” for an hour due to a sudden spike in her heart rate. She eventually dialled 999 from her bed, pleading for assistance and describing Preston as someone whose ”brain snaps very quickly”.

When police arrived at the couple’s home in Crewe, Cheshire, they discovered that Preston had expressed a wish to perform a ”mercy killing” on his girlfriend before taking his own life.

The victim, who is bedridden due to medical conditions, reported that he also hurled bottles of her liquid food at her, especially when she reminded him that he had neglected to feed her, reports the Manchester Evening News.

At Chester Crown Court, Preston, from Nelson Street in Crewe, admitted to engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, as well as other charges of criminal damage, theft, and assault on a police officer. He was sentenced to 20 months in prison.

Prosecution counsel Sarah Badrawy stated: “On May 14, 2025 police responded to a 999 call from [redacted], where the defendant interrupted the call by grabbing the phone from her.

“Police were called to a residence where the defendant and [redacted] were living at the time. [Redacted] was found in bed, visibly distressed and crying, explaining that she suffers from medical conditions that prevent her from moving. She revealed that she lost all her abilities in January 2025 and described the defendant as someone whose ‘brain snaps very quickly’.

“She also shared that he had threatened to destroy her phone, had verbally abused her, and even threatened to physically harm or kill her. She mentioned that the defendant was suffering from drug-induced psychosis, and on May 5, 2025, he sent over 400 messages in just a few hours, which made her feel extremely uncomfortable.”

She reported that he had emptied a bottle of her concealer onto a whiteboard, damaging a photograph of them both. He also ruined a stuffed toy.

In January 2025, [redacted] said that the defendant believed she no longer loved him and accused her of being self-centred, focusing only on her illnesses.

“He told her he considered her ‘dead’ and expressed desires to commit a ‘mercy kill plus suicide’. This occurred twice during the month, but she couldn’t recall the exact dates,” the court heard.

The defendant would frequently throw bottles of her liquid food around her head and body in anger, particularly if she reminded him that he had left her hungry.

‘She pleaded with the defendant for help’

Miss Badrawy stated: “[Redacted] was forced to hold in her faeces for over 120 hours. She begged the defendant to help her and he even took her toilet paper away at one point.

“Eventually the defendant allowed her to defecate which made her heart rate increase and left her paralysed for an hour. She was unable to clean herself. [Redacted] said that she relives this experience whenever she needs a bowel movement.”

Preston was arrested but became aggressive with police and bit an officer on the arm. After being bailed, he checked into a hotel in Crewe but was arrested again after he damaged a fire extinguisher and set off the hotel sprinkler when told the bar was closed. He claimed his mental health had suffered due to his excessive use of cannabis.

His solicitor advocate Peter Barnett commented: ”It is quite clear that he struggled to cope in looking after his former partner and in the circumstances that had an effect on his mental health. He did not realise it was deteriorating to the extent it did and he effectively had a meltdown. Rarely have I seen anybody in such a poor state of mind.

“He understands the effects cannabis has had on his mind and no longer wants to indulge in it. He thought it helped him.

“Clearly it did not and it caused him paranoia. He felt isolated in looking after her and she clearly got to a state where she could not do things for herself.

“He went to the authorities but nobody came forward to assist.”

During sentencing, Judge Simon Berkson addressed Preston directly: “For an extended period of time you committed an unhappy list of offences, in relation to a person who was significantly disabled at the time.’

‘She required love and attention rather than the disgraceful and cruel way in which you treated her over that period. The different ways you controlled and coerced [redacted] was clearly upsetting and injurious to her.

“Your behaviour was despicable and disgraceful and was intended to humiliate and degrade the victim in some very unusual and upsetting ways.”
