- The M5 was closed overnight sparking major delays for motorists during rush hour this morning (December 1). Drivers were advised to avoid the M5 near Somerset, as the carriageways were closed between J20 Clevedon and J21 Weston-super-Mare.
- Avon and Somerset Police carried out investigations at scene of the accident which happened just after 11pm on November 30.
- Traffic camera images appeared to show a fireball erupting from the wreckage. No information has yet been released about whether there were any casualties and the severity of their injuries.
- Diversion routes were put in place as both north and southbound carriageways remained closed with drivers and holidaymakers heading to Bristol Airport urged to allow more travel time.
- The diversions caused delays of up to one hour as traffic backlogged during the morning’s rush hour.
- The motorway has now fully reopened but further details are yet to emerge about the incident.
