Ruben Amorim handed Leny Yoro instruction after Man Utd struggles

Manchester United legend Mikael Silvestre has urged the club to work with defender Leny Yoro on his positioning after the French centre-back endured a difficult day in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace

Mikael Silvestre hopes Manchester United are working with Leny Yoro to iron out his errors. The French defender had a torrid time on Sunday against Crystal Palace as they fought back to secure a 2-1 victory.

Yoro was exposed during the clash at Selhurst Park when Jean-Philippe Mateta nearly capitalised after Matthijs de Ligt’s header bounced off his defensive colleague and fell to the striker. Mateta and Yoro clashed before half-time in the box, with the forward making no error to put Palace ahead from the spot.

United’s backline has been under scrutiny in recent seasons, and the club moved to secure the promising centre-half from Lille, seeing off competition from Real Madrid and Liverpool for his services. Nevertheless, Yoro is currently enduring a challenging spell in the Premier League.

Ex-United defender Silvestre reckons Yoro’s positioning represents one of his weaker attributes and urged the club to focus on his defensive work.

Silvestre told Poker Scout: “I was looking at him a couple of times where he was in trouble, it’s mainly due to his positioning. The starting and recovery position, he’s putting himself in danger and that’s what happens.”

“It’s easy to adjust because other than that, his ability to win the duels, be dominant in the air or on the floor is in good numbers. He’s been caught ball-watching and not doing the simple movement to put himself in a better position.

“I think it’s a matter of looking at his clips and working on his positions. I hope they’re doing it with him.”

The 20-year-old had a tough week after United’s woeful home display against Everton, with Mount offering comfort following the victory over Crystal Palace.

Yet Yoro has already praised his manager and provided a glimpse into how he plans to keep progressing under Ruben Amorim.

Speaking in February, he said: “Of course, [that] is good for me. This is a good impression, and I need to do what he says on the pitch.

“I am confident with this, maybe I am not 100% of my capability but I know with time and experience I will be.

“I spoke with him when he came to the club, [and I thought] this is a very good coach who likes to speak with the players and really likes to have a good relationship with the players.

“He understands us a lot because he was a player before so he knows a lot about what it’s like, the feelings you can have when you play or don’t play and when you have a bad game.

“He knows how to manage this, and I think this is the most important [thing].

“Tactically he is top. We don’t have too much training to learn everything, but he tries to give us everything before the game to be 100% the best version of the team. We know he is with us and we are with him, so it’s good.”
