Sabrina Carpenter savages Donald Trump over ‘evil and disgusting’ video

The country pop singer laid into the US President after the White House used one of her songs in a video showing people being cuffed and deported

Sabrina Carpenter savaged Donald Trump for using one of her songs in an “evil and disgusting video”. It came just hours after the publishers of the beloved children’s character Franklin the Turtle disavowed the Trump administration’s use of his image to support its agenda.

Responding to the use of her song “Juno” in a video montage depicting ICE raids, Carpenter tweeted: “This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.” In the caption for the clip, the White House quoted Carpenter’s lyrics, “Have you ever tried this one? Bye-bye.”

Yesterday, ‘Franklin the Turtle’ publisher Kids Can Press condemned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s post on X featuring a manipulated image showing Franklin aiming a bazooka at boats. Hegseth posted the image with the caption “Franklin Targets Narco Terrorists.”

“We strongly condemn any denigrating, violent, or unauthorised use of Franklin’s name or image, which directly contradicts these values,” the publisher said in a tweet. The Trump administration has conducted multiple strikes in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean on small boats accused of ferrying drugs in the region. More than 80 people have been killed in such strikes since early September. There is a long list of performers and artists who have objected to the Trump administration using their songs and copyright material, including ABBA, Bruce Springsteen, Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna, Phil Collins, Pharrell, John Fogerty, Semisonic, Neil Young, Eddy Grant, Panic! at the Disco, R.E.M., Guns N’ Roses, Celine Dion, Beyoncé and Adele.

Carpenter’s rebuke came as Trump, 79, appeared to doze off during a marathon cabinet meeting. As members of his top team took turns to shower him with gushing praise, the elderly President’s eyes drooped, he leaned forward and appeared to be close to falling asleep. At other times he leaned on his hand and closed his eyes during the meeting which lasted longer than an hour.

It’s not the first time Carpenter has criticised Trump. After endorsing and supporting Kamala Harris ahead of last year’s election, Carpenter told an audience the day after the election: “I hope we can be a moment of peace for you, a moment of safety. Sorry about our country and to the women in here I love you so so so so so much & I really hope for the rest of this night that you can enjoy yourselves because you absolutely deserve it.”
