WWE Champion pays tribute to “our boy” as he shares heartbreaking information

CM Punk rescued Larry from a ‘no kill’ dog shelter in his hometown of Chicago 10 years and said the pooch “changed his life” after he fell in love with him at first sight

Heartbroken wrestling star CM Punk has announced his beloved dog Larry has died. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion, 47, paid tribute to the pooch who “changed his life” in an emotional statement on social media.

He posted on his Instagram page: “The grief we carry is the price we pay for unconditional love. Our little Larry crossed the rainbow bridge, wrapped tightly in our arms. He was safe and happy. Surrounded by love.”

Punk, real name Phillip Brooks, rescued Larry from an animal shelter in his hometown of Chicago in 2015. He previously said of his adoption: “I think it’s important to rescue dogs. I think it’s a much better, more fulfilling way to go about getting a dog.”

Larry was returned the shelter three times before Punk rescued him. He said he fell in love with Larry at first sight and named him after actor Larry Talbot, who played the Wolfman in the Universal Monster Movies.

Punk added in his tribute: “I could never in one million years find the words to properly express how much we loved him nor how much joy brought us. Nothing I write, no pictures I post would do him justice. He lived a long amazing life.

“He watched sunsets, he chased skate boards. He made everywhere we went with him home. What a privilege to be so heart broken and devastated for having experienced such a bond. I wouldn’t change anything. Our boy is at rest.

“The house is quiet but we still hear the jingle of his necklace and the tip taps of his little feet on the hardwood floors. He will always be near. We will always feel him. Our hearts are broken. Until we see you again, sweetest Bobo. We love you. Forever.”

Punk often shared photos of Larry on his social media and once joked he was one of the most famous dogs in the world. He even had his own merch range and fans chanted his name during Punk’s feud with Drew McIntyre last year.

Speaking in a WWE published video earlier this year, Punk said: “I like to share things with my fans but I also try to be intensely private. So a lot of the time, stuff involving myself and my wife I won’t share.

“But I think Larry is for everybody. Everybody smiles when they see him. When you’re walking down the street and strangers see him, they smile.”
