‘Crook’ will get immediate karma throughout weird police chase caught on digicam

A man fleeing police officers – who appeared to be wearing one shoe – met an embarrassing end to his attempted escape thanks to the intervention of a heroic bystander

A fleeing suspect smashed head-first into a lamppost after being clothes-lined by a heroic bystander. There was instant Karma for the alleged crook as he tries to sprint away from cops who chased him down a busy high street.

The footage – taken in the early hours last Saturday – shows the man speeding away from the copper on Broad Street, a busy shopping street in Birmingham.

A member of the public helps out by sticking out an arm to stop the suspect – who then trips and whacks his head on the lamp post. To add to the farcical feel of the chase, the suspect appears to be only wearing one shoe.

Juan Lito, 31, was in a car with friends when they saw the chase and started filming it, reports The Sun.

The IT developer likened it to ‘Subway Surfers’ – a video game in which the player has to escape police capture.

Juan, from Birmingham, said: “We were going home from a night out. As we pulled out of Broad Street, we saw a police officer chasing a guy. It looked like a game of Subway Surfers.”

He continued: “He only had one shoe on as well – nobody noticed [from the video] that he had one shoe on.

“He ran up the street with one shoe and we all thought he would get away. Initially, we all thought – he’s out of here. He’s actually done it. But he got knocked out by the lamppost after the guy pushed him.

“You can see him sit up afterwards and the police officer stood over him – so I presume at that point he would’ve got arrested, to be fair.

“I can imagine he’s woken up with a sore head in a police cell.”

It is not clear why the man was being chased.

Meanwhile, Durham Police unveiled a compilation of the worst drink drivers of 2025 as part of their Christmas driving initiative Operation Limit.

Among them is a school bus driver was found to be more than twice the legal drink-drive limit while taking a coachload of children into a busy town centre.

Body-worn camera footage captured the tipsy school coach driver being arrested after concerned teachers raised the alarm. He was discovered to be more than double the legal limit whilst transporting children into Durham city centre.

Another segment features a plastered van driver telling officers: “You can’t tell me what I can and can’t do.” He then nods off in front of bewildered police.

One brazen motorist even informed cops he didn’t pull over because he “thought you were giving me a police escort”.

Another intoxicated man is filmed denying he drove home drunk whilst clearly seated behind the wheel with his hands gripping the steering wheel.
