Two hundred houses evacuated in ‘main incident’ as cops arrest two males
A major incident has been declared in Derby as around roughly 200 homes have been evacuated.
The evacuation zone has been put in place following a warrant at an address in Vulcan Street in Derby.
Police are also evacuating the area around Vulcan Street after they acted on intelligence about materials at an address.
Two men, one in his 40s and another in his 50s, have been arrested on suspicion of explosives offences, as police confirm that they will remain in police custody.
Derbyshire police are emphasising that the evacuation is a precaution, reports DerbyshireLive.
They said: “This is not being investigated as a terrorism incident, there is no wider risk to the community, and the evacuations are a precaution to ensure the safety of those in the area.”

Derbyshire police have warned residents that they will hear a “bang” at some point. They have reassured the public that this is controlled and will be carried out by the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Division.
Police said: “Residents in the area of Vulcan Street may hear a bang shortly – this is controlled and is part of the work being carried out by the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Division who are supporting this incident.”
However, police warned those that have been evacuated that they should prepare to be away from their homes for 24 hours.
Those affected have been told by police to go to the initial rest centre at the Salvation Army.
Derbyshire Police stated: “Anyone who lives within the affected area is asked to prepare to be out of their homes for 24 hours and make preparations should they need medicines or require pets to be moved from an address.
“The initial rest centre for those affected will be located at the Salvation Army, 38 Osmaston Road, Derby, DE1 2HU, and is being run by Derby City Council.”
