Police have asked the driver of a vehicle that hit and killed an 81-year-old woman to come forward.
Emergency services rushed to Longmoor Lane, Liverpool, at around 4.15pm on Friday, November 5, on reports that a a dark-coloured vehicle had hit a pedestrian.
The pensioner, a local to the area, is believed to have gone to a nearby shop. She sustained serious injuries from the hit-and-run and was taken to Aintree Hospital.
She passed away hours later.
“The 81-year-old victim had only popped out to shops and now her family are trying to come to terms with her loss. Specialist officers are providing them with support at this tragic time,” Superintendent Siobhan Russell said.
The driver has not been found and officers were examining local CCTV to identify the vehicle. Police believe the car may show signs of damage from the collision.
They have appealed to the driver to come forward.
“I would like to take this opportunity for the driver of the car to search their conscience and come forward. I would also like to appeal to anyone who has any information which could help us identify the driver to come forward,” Russell said.
The road was cordoned off to allow for forensic examinations to take place and an investigation into the full circumstances of the incident are still being established.
Liverpool Echo reported that forensic officers were seen taking photographs at the scene, while police officers patrolled nearby streets.
