Mo Salah and Arne Slot’s ‘toxic’ relationship as Jamie Carragher sparks Liverpool conflict

Jamie Carragher called out Mohamed Salah demanding he speak more but it’s resulted in civil war at Liverpool as the Kop hero launched an extraordinary rant at manager Arne Slot and the club

Jamie Carragher needs to be careful what he wishes for – because now he’s got what he wanted, he will know it has resulted in civil war breaking out inside Anfield.

Just last month Carragher called out Mohamed Salah, demanding he speak out more on the team’s troubles and what is going on with the broken Premier League champions. Well, Salah has obliged.

And the hand grenade he has thrown in the direction of Arne Slot, has caused an explosion that has done untold damage to the reputation of himself, his manager, club and the inner sanctum of the Liverpool dressing room. Having claimed he’s been “thrown under the bus”, Salah has fought back to chuck Liverpool and Slot under a fleet of them.

Some believe there is a time and place for footballers like him to air their dirty linen. And it isn’t in public. But the fact a man who believed in silence being golden has chosen to hang his club out to dry in such a vicious and vitriolic manner, speaks volumes for how poisonous his relationship with Slot now is.

How has it come to this? In April, Salah penned a lucrative new deal, on the back of firing Liverpool to the title in Slot’s first season in charge. Eight months later, Salah has fired the opening shots in hostilities that will not end well for all parties.

He has opened wounds that are impossible to heal. One of the club’s most iconic stars has challenged Slot’s authority, basically telling American owners ‘Fenway Sports Group’ – it’s him or me.

Liverpool are one of the most storied clubs in the world. One which has prided itself in class, distinction and decorum. But now one which has a very high-profile rebel without a cause.

A sulking superstar who believes he deserves more respect than to be shunted onto the substitutes bench for three games in a row – at a time when Slot’s side is struggling to beat an egg.

He’s wrong. Despite his greatness, Salah still needs to earn his place in the team. But he clearly takes exception to club bosses allowing Slot to make him a scapegoat for Liverpool’s travails.

And while some people think Liverpool hold all the aces, they don’t. Newcastle thought that when Alexander Isak wanted to leave – and look how that turned out?

There is no going back for Salah now. And this might be the reason he decided to launch his tirade when stood outside Elland Road.

Saudi is calling, and Liverpool have no choice but to sell him to the highest bidder in the next transfer window. What is the alternative? Allow him to come back after the African Cup of Nations and pretend all this never happened? Do me a favour.

Contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re written on, these days. Players always get what they want in the end. But what Salah won’t get is the farewell from Anfield such a glorious and iconic footballer like him deserves.

And that is the saddest aspect of all, from an astonishing scenario which has turned sour faster than a pint of milk left out in the summer sunshine.
