Andy Robertson is hoping Liverpool can patch things up with Mohamed Salah following four days of turmoil at the club.

Salah was dropped from the travelling squad for Tuesday’s clash with Inter Milan, and the team responded with a determined 1-0 victory in Italy. Arne Slot and Liverpool’s hierarchy took the decision to leave Salah at home for the Champions League encounter after he publicly slated the manager in a bombshell post-match interview on Saturday.

The Egyptian claimed Slot had thrown him under the bus after being benched for three consecutive matches. The club icon’s allegations have sent shockwaves through the squad, but they delivered an improved performance at the San Siro as Dominik Szoboszlai’s late spot-kick secured victory.

Whether Salah will be brought back into the fold for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton remains uncertain, but Robertson’s preference is crystal clear.

“A tough situation. We’re talking about one of the greatest players to play for this club,” the left-back revealed to Prime Video after the final whistle. “I signed in the same window as him and we’ve been through so many highs and lows. Whatever has happened, happened. We’re all together in the changing room, and you could see that today.”

When questioned about Salah’s future, he continued: “That’ll be up to other people, it’s not up to me. I love playing with Mo Salah and I hope to continue playing with him.”

Liverpool had a goal from Ibrahima Konate disallowed by VAR due to a handball, but were later given a chance to clinch the game in highly controversial circumstances. Florian Wirtz tumbled down in the box after Alessandro Bastoni held his shirt, leading to Szoboszlai confidently slotting home the penalty.

“Huge result,” Robertson declared. “We knew we were coming to a tough place, to a team that’s in a good moment. We had to show fight and dig in. The clean sheet was crucial and then we go and scored the goal.

“The handball for me, I think it took seven or eight minutes. If you do that, then you have to stick to the on-field decision. You have to stick to the decision. The penalty did look soft but that’s given anywhere else on the pitch.

“We all needed it. We know the results and performances aren’t good enough. It’s important this club is in the Champions League. It was a huge result for all of us.”
