Donald Trump’s vile assault on Sadiq Khan – ‘horrible, vicious and disgusting’
The childish US President singled out London’s left-wing mayor – who is the capital’s first Muslim mayor – and launched an attack on ‘weak’ European leaders in an interview
Donald Trump has launched a fresh attack on Sadiq Khan – calling him “a horrible, vicious, disgusting mayor”.
The childish US President singled out London’s left-wing mayor – who is the capital’s first Muslim mayor – and launched an attack on “weak” European leaders. He made wild claims about Europe “decaying” and said leaders were “destroying” their nations.
In a 45-minute interview, Mr Trump, who has a long running feud with Sir Sadiq, went on a rant about immigrants “from all parts of the world “coming to Europe and claimed that the continent’s leaders “want to be politically correct”.
He told Politico: “If you take a look at Paris, it’s a much different place. I loved Paris. Uh, it’s a much different place than it was. If you take a look at London, you have a mayor named Khan. He’s a horrible mayor.
“He’s an incompetent mayor, but he’s a horrible, vicious, disgusting mayor. I think he’s done a terrible job. London’s a different place. I love London. I love London. And I hate to see it happen. You know, my roots are in Europe, as you know.”

Mr Trump also branded Sir Sadiq a “disaster” and suggested he only got elected because of migrants in London. He said: “Your mayor of London. He’s a disaster. He’s a disaster. He’s got a totally different ideology of what he’s supposed to have. And he gets elected because so many people have come in.
“They vote for him now because you know, it’s like … it’s uh, one of those things. But I hate what’s happened to London, and I hate what’s happened to Paris. I hate when I see it.”
Downing Street today denied it was failing to stand up for Sir Sadiq after declining to criticise Mr Trump’s attack on the London Mayor. Asked whether the Prime Minister could stick up for Sir Sadiq, a No 10 spokesman said: “As I say, the Prime Minister has a strong relationship with the US president and a strong relationship with the Mayor of London and on both is committed to working together to deliver stronger outcomes for the British people right across the country.”
Asked why No 10 would not stick up for Sir Sadiq, the spokesman said: “I don’t accept that. As I’ve said, the Prime Minister has a strong relationship with the Mayor of London.”
In July, Mr Trump reignited his feud with Sir Sadiq as he branded the London Mayor a “nasty person” in a televised sit-down with Keir Starmer in Scotland.
It was an an uncomfortable moment for the Prime Minister, who was sitting next to the President and was forced to lean over and interject, saying: “He’s a friend of mine.”
In September, Sir Sadiq Mr Trump racist, sexist, and Islamophobic after the US President again attacked him as a “terrible” mayor of London.
The Labour leader of the capital said he appeared to be living “rent free” in the American leader’s head after being singled out again by Mr Trump. The US President stoked his long-running feud with Sir Sadiq, branding him a “terrible” mayor during his address to the UN General Assembly in New York earlier that week.
The feud between Sir Sadiq and Mr Trump has been going on for years – including in Mr Trump’s first term as President. In 2019, Sir Sadiq compared President Trump to a “20th Century fascist”, saying he was guilty of “defending white supremacists, neo-Nazis and anti-Semites” in Charlottesville and “amplifying messages from racists in this country”.
