A school was put on lockdown this morning following reports of a student being threatened with a weapon. South Wirral High School, in Eastham, Wirral, went into lockdown after a 15-year-old boy was allegedly threatened by two males wielding a bladed weapon on nearby Plymyard Avenue.

Merseyside Police were alerted around 8.40am on Tuesday, December 9, and are currently trying to track down the two suspects who scarpered from the scene. Thankfully, no one was harmed during the incident.

“Police have since confirmed that no lockdown is required and school continues as normal. Students and staff remained safe throughout.

“Please see the email sent to parents/carers and the update now available on our school website for full details.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to get in touch with the police by dialling 101 or DM @MerpolCC on social media, quoting log number 212 of December 9.

It comes after emergency crews rushed to a packed Marks and Spencer outlet after a pensioner collapsed and died in front of horrified customers.

The supermarket was forced to shut its doors to the public, with shoppers evacuated and workers sent home early while emergency responders dealt with the tragic incident on Thursday (December 4).

Officers later confirmed there were “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding the death of the 90-year-old woman at the Marks and Spencer Foodhall on Aughton Street in Ormskirk, Lancashire. It remains unclear whether she was an employee or a shopper at the time of the incident. M&S and North West Ambulance Service have been approached for additional comment.
