Son Heung-min makes emotional return to Tottenham as tribute unveiled to membership legend following exit

Son Heung-min made his first return to N17 ahead of the Tottenham‘s Champions League tie against Slavia Prague, with a terrific new mural unveiled in the High Road to mark the occasion.

There was a pre match montage of his finest moment in Spurs colours and a rapturous reception, albeit from another sub-capacity crowd.

This is the third home game of the Champions League campaign and none have sold out. Slavia Prague was hardly going to break the routine. Not even with Son back, but the supporters were thrilled to see him.

He appeared 10 minutes before kick off, wearing a long grey overcoat and black scarf, with microphone in hand.

‘It’s Sonny here,’ he said smiling.

‘I hope you guys don’t forget me. It’s been an amazing 10 years, an incredible 10 years, just want to say thank you.

‘I will be always Spurs and always with you and this will be always my home. I will never forget you.

‘Please stay with me, come visit LA, I hope we see each other very often. I love you guys.’

Son concluded his message to the crowd by shouting: ‘Come on you Spurs.’

Injured Spurs players on the touchline, including James Maddison and Dominic Solanke, applauded him off the pitch.

Son waved to the Tottenham fans before heading towards his seat in the stands to watch the match.

The South Korean star had vowed to return to say goodbye to Tottenham fans, with his final appearance in a Tottenham shirt coming in a pre-season match in his homeland back in August.

Son then completed a record-breaking move to MLS side LA FC for a fee believed to be in excess of £20million.

He had made 454 appearances for Tottenham and scored 173 goals, the fifth-highest tally in the club’s history.

This included scoring the first official goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Son confirmed his legendary status after captaining Tottenham to Europa League success last season, ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought in the process.

A new mural featuring Son’s trophy lift and his signature goal celebration was unveiled ahead of his return.

Son has enjoyed an impressive start to his time in the MLS, having scored nine goals in 10 matches for LA FC.

LA FC, however, were beaten in the MLS play-off stage by Vancouver Whitecaps last month.
