Wolves planning main overhaul of recruitment technique with membership sliding in direction of relegation after winless begin to the season

Wolves plan to overhaul their recruitment strategy after mistakes made in the summer window left them with one foot in the Championship.

The club have only two points from their opening 15 matches and have lost all four games since Rob Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira as coach, starting at Premier League leaders Arsenal on December 13.

Following the sales of key players Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri last summer, Wolves spent £122million trying to rebuild the squad but the new players, with the exception of Ladislav Krejci, have struggled to make an impact.

Fans protested against owners Fosun before the 4-1 defeat by Manchester United at Molineux.

Wolves know they need to reset at many levels and will give greater responsibility to their own recruitment staff as they look to the January transfer window and beyond.

They also plan to invest and in the past, Wolves have relied heavily on agents when trading, particularly on super agent Jorge Mendes and his company, Gestifute.

Yet the failure of the summer window has convinced them to take a different approach, which Daily Mail Sport understands is fully supported by Edwards.

In the past, Wolves recruitment staff have been frustrated as a succession of coaches rejected their suggestions but that is unlikely to be the case in future.

Having worked at Wolves for much of the 2010s, Edwards already knows members of the recruitment team and trusts them.

As for January, Wolves are open to trading players if it allows Edwards to accelerate his long-term plans for the club.
