More Brit blokes turning to fats jabs to shed kilos as ‘sensible shift’ emerges
As weight loss jabs continue to surge in popularity, some British men are taking up the medication in order to drop their weight, with new figures showing men are catching up
More British blokes than ever are turning to fat jabs to slim down, new research has discovered. Women had massively outweighed fellas in using them, but a major prescriber of the medications says guys are catching up.
Data from Chemist4u shows it used to be 90% women ordering to 10% men. Now it’s 60% women to 40% men. Chemist4U CEO James O’Loan said he was seeing more evidence of men prioritising their health — including four taxi drivers on recent business trips.
“One of them couldn’t get a hernia operation as he was too overweight, and he’s now had his operation,” he said. “I think men are less likely to talk about their health, and talking about it is in some ways a bit more taboo, or maybe they don’t feel comfortable talking about it.
“But we’re definitely starting to see the shift, which is brilliant.” GLP-1 medications are a class of drug that mimic a natural hormone to help manage type 2 diabetes and aid weight loss by slowing digestion and suppressing appetite.
In August the Daily Star Sunday told how the NHS was handing out 200 jabs an hour. But we can reveal the number has now increased to 280, with a total of 201,686 prescriptions issued for one popular jab in September.
It comes as a further 1.4m Brits are believed to have self-funded their weight loss efforts. Mr O’Loan added: “The thing about these new obesity treatments is the momentum, there’s a bit of a fire being lit.
“They’ve given that person confidence where nothing has ever worked before.” However, while the jabs can be a saviour to help lose weight easily, some have already started to see some adverse affects to taking the treatment.
Singer Robbie Williams dropped a bombshell last month when he blamed weight loss jabs such as Mounjaro for causing him to slowly go blind. The Rock DJ star said he was certain that the injections were causing the rapid deterioration, despite him being prescribed the medication to deal with a surge in rapid weight gain.
“I went to an American football game the other night and the players were just blobs on a green field in front of me,” Robbie fumed. “And I was like, ‘What the f*** is happening?’
“And on my most recent tour, there’s this thing I do where I sing She’s The One to a girl every night. Basically, I was looking in the direction of these women looking up at me, having this experience that’s quite obviously incredible to them, and little do they know I can’t see them.”
But despite his gradual loss of sight, Robbie admitted that the results of the jabs are so effective, he will keep going until he cannot see anymore out of one eye. He is now one of over 300 cases reported to the authorities surrounding his gradual sight loss at the hands of Mounjaro.
