Social media star, 9, dies after Ariana Grande sends her message throughout most cancers battle
The social media world is mourning the loss of nine-year-old influencer, Brielle ‘Brie’ Bird, who has tragically passed away following a brave battle with cancer.
Known to her thousands of followers as @briestrongerthancancer, Brie used Instagram to share her life and experiences as she valiantly fought against a recurring form of neuroblastoma cancer – a disease that primarily affects children under five – for half a decade.
Brie was first diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2020 and managed to achieve remission two years later. However, the devastating disease returned in January 2024, leading to the beloved young star being moved into a hospice in July for end-of-life care, surrounded by her loving family.

Despite their immense grief, Brie’s family did everything possible to make her final days special. In August, the little girl, who had gained a large following through her honest portrayal of her cancer journey, was overjoyed to receive a surprise package from one of her favourite singers, Ariana Grande.
A thrilled Brie shared a video of herself unboxing the gifts, many of which were themed around Wicked and Glinda, the character played by Ariana in the hit film, reports the Mirror.
The ‘Eternal Sunshine’ singer sent her young fan a variety of presents including plush Squishmallows, nail polish, perfume, two Wicked dolls and other treats.
Through tears of joy, Brie expressed her gratitude: “Thank you so, so, so, so much, Ariana Grande. I love everything in the package that you got, especially the Squishmallows and everything else.”

The heartwarming clip ended with a touching message from Ariana, who revealed she’d learnt of Brie’s passion for Wicked through her mother. Praising the youngster’s spirit, she gushed: “I’ve seen your videos and I think you are the most amazing, most inspiring little light beam in this universe. You’re just so incredible, so thank you for being you.
“I’m sending you so much love and many, many, many virtual hugs. I hope this makes you smile, and I’ll speak to you soon. Love you.”
Heartbreakingly, Brie passed away just weeks afterwards, with her mum Kendra breaking the devastating news to her daughter’s 650,000 followers: “You are the miracle! Your purpose on earth was fulfilled, and it was the most sacred privilege to escort you home,” she posted on Friday.
“You brought people to Christ, you showed the world that God is good, and your light shined to all corners of the earth. We love you for eternity!”.
The beloved social media star’s family pledged they will “never stop” sharing her story, adding poignantly, “Please come visit us often. Your bedroom door is always open, and we’ll leave the playroom light on.
“You did it Brielle, you did everything with grace! I can only imagine the incredible reunion, and I’m so jealous; but I know you ran straight to Jesus.”
the statement carried on, wrapping up with: “Thank you for being an inspiration to so many.”
