Bondi Beach terror assault: Sydney membership mourns footballer Dan Elkayam, 27

Dan Elkayam has been named as one of the victims of the terror attack in Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, with the French national being a footballer in the city

A football club in Sydney has honoured one of its players who tragically lost his life in the Bondi Beach shooting.

The horrific mass shooting on Australia’s Bondi Beach has left at least 16 people dead, including one gunman, and 40 others hospitalised with injuries. The assailants opened fire during a Jewish festival on the beach, claiming the lives of a beloved British Rabbi and a 10 year old girl among others.

Authorities have labelled the attack as a “terrorist incident” and confirmed that a 50 year old gunman is also among the deceased. Police found “several” explosive devices at the beach, suspected to be connected to the deceased attacker, reports the Mirror..

A second perpetrator, identified by a high-ranking law enforcement official as Naveed Akram, has been injured and is currently under police custody. It was revealed that the attackers were father and son.

Details about the victims tragically killed in the terror incident are slowly emerging hours after the deadly attack. Among the latest identified is a 27 year old French national.

Dan Elkayam, 27, has been named by President Emmanuel Macron as one of the victims. Elkayam was part of the Rockdale Ilinden football club’s Premier League One team in southern Sydney.

The club expressed their grief through a poignant statement on social media. “It is with extreme shock and sadness to discover our Premier League 1 player – Dan Elkayam – was a victim of the horrendous, tragic and senseless events at Bondi Beach on Sunday 14th Dec 2025,” the club posted on Facebook.

The statement went on: “Dan was an integral member of our PL1 Squad in 2025 – who was an extremely talented and popular figure amongst team mates. Our deepest and sincerest condolences to Dan’s family, friends and all that knew him. He will be missed. May he Rest in Peace – Memory be Eternal.”
