Famous director Rob Reiner and spouse ‘found dead at home with knife injuries’

Famous Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer have reportedly been found dead at their Los Angeles home. Homicide detectives are investigating after Reiner, who directed When Harry Met Sally , A Few Good Men and This is Spinal Tap, were reportedly found dead with knife injuries.

LA police said homicide officers were despatched to the house in the Brentwood neighbourhood, amid reports that a man, 78, and woman, 68, had been found dead.

Police did not release the identities of the two deceased, but TMZ and Variety reported that Reiner and his wife had been found dead. TMZ reported that they had been discovered with “knife lacerations”.

Reiner directed classics such as heavy metal mockumentary This is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, Misery, When Harry Met Sally and A Few Good Men. He was a prominent progressive voice in the Hollywood community, reports Variety, and also a major fundraiser for the Democratic Party. He had also been a vocal critic of US President Donald Trump.

The son of comedian and director Carl Reiner, he also starred as Michael “Meathead” Stivic before moving behind the camera. He founded Castle Rock, the production company which made In the Line of Fire, City Slickers, The Shawshank Redemption and Seinfeld.

His wife Michele Singer was a photographer who shot Donald Trump’s photo for the cover of “The Art of the Deal.” The couple are survived by three children — Jake, Nick and Romy, while Reiner was also the adoptive father of actress Tracy Reiner, the daughter of his first wife, the late actress and director Penny Marshall.

LA police said homicide officers were despatched to the house in the Brentwood neighbourhood, amid reports that a man, 78, and woman, 68, had been found dead.

A post on X (Twitter) from LA Police Department’s media relations division read: “On December 14th, at 3:40 pm, LAPD officers responded to a death investigation in the 200 block of S. Chadbourne Ave. Inside the residence, officers discovered 2 decedents. The identity of the decedents has not yet been confirmed.

“Robbery Homicide Division (RHD) responded to the residence, which has been identified as the home of Rob Reiner. At this time, no further details are available as this is an ongoing RHD investigation, into an apparent homicide.”

The LA fire department said a man and a woman approximately 78 and 68 years old were found dead in the mansion, reports NBC Los Angeles.

There was a large police presence at the home in the Brentwood neighbourhood, NBC reported on Sunday, with LAPD Robbery Homicide Division detectives said to be investigating.
