Hot streak! M&S will promote 20 mens jumpers a minute within the run-up to Christmas

M&S expects to sell around 20 men’s jumpers every minute in the run-up to Christmas as it bids to grow market share in the demographic.

The High Street retailer is already the leader in men’s knitwear with an 18 per cent slice of the market – but hopes to extend the gap over rivals such as Next and H&M.

Mitch Hughes, menswear director at M&S, said: ‘Menswear is a growth opportunity for M&S and knitwear is leading the way.’

The retailer expects best sellers to include high-end knits, including a £99 pure cashmere jumper and a merino mohair Autograph jumper from £49.

M&S has been trying to increase the number of its male customers by hiring celebrity ambassadors such as football pundit Ian Wright.
