- Hackers lobbed a ransom demand at Pornhub after worming their way into the third-party system Mixpanel that Pornhub uses to monitor site traffic.
- Cybercrime collective ShinyHunters claimed they extracted a colossal data set of over 200 million entries, with the stolen information including email addresses, location, video titles, search keywords, and activity timestamps.
- Pornhub enlisted cybersecurity experts and stressed that sensitive information like users’ passwords, credentials, government IDs, and payment details were not compromised.
- Compromised records are believed to be from 2023 or earlier, as Pornhub’s collaboration with Mixpanel ceased that year.
- The platform has since secured the affected account, notified affected users, and issued a public warning for all users to remain vigilant against phishing or suspicious activity.
