Met Office points fog warning as London airports face potential flight disruption

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for parts of central and southeast England, with dense fog expected to cause travel disruption on Thursday morning

The Met Office has issued a weather alert for a large section of England, with travel disruption likely. The weather warning comes into effect immediately, with the Met Office predicting that fog patches will affect parts of central and southeast England on Thursday morning.

Although some areas might not see any fog, the Met Office said where it does form it may “be dense in places with visibility below 100 metres,” which could see travel conditions growing difficult.

Fog will slowly clear from the west after dawn, but Britons are warned that conditions may linger until mid-morning in the east of the warning area. Regions and local authorities affected include:, reports the Mirror. As the fog may impact areas that include Luton, Heathrow and Stansted, flight delays or cancellations may occur.

Britons are advised if travelling by air to keep their eye on flight arrival and departure times just in case.

Motorists should also be aware of a serious crash impacting the M1 motorway near Milton Keynes, causing delays into rush hour and, if foggy, may result in further hazards.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, leaving extra journey time, or amending plans if necessary,” the spokesperson said. “Make sure you know how to switch on your fog lights, and check they are working before setting off on your journey. Bus and train services, as well as flights and ferry travel, may also be affected; check for updates from your travel company, and follow their advice.”

Weather patterns could shift rapidly, with the Met Office urging people nationwide to “be prepared” should circumstances alter.

Across England, Britons should brace themselves for a murky and icy morning, particularly in the southeast. Downpours will sweep in from the northwest, turning heavy at intervals and bringing with them fierce coastal winds.
