New York Giants RELEASE kicker who turned an NFL laughingstock with inexplicable missed discipline aim

The New York Giants have waived kicker Younghoe Koo just weeks after his calamitous field goal blunder.

Earlier this month, in a Monday Night Football game against the New England Patriots, Koo – one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history – kicked the floor instead of the ball.

The incident quickly went viral and on Tuesday it was confirmed that he had been let go by the Giants. He has until 4pm on Wednesday to be claimed off waivers.

The 31-year-old only joined the Giants back in September after spells with the Chargers, Patriots, and Falcons.

He earned Pro Bowl selection in 2020 but his tenure in New York will be remembered for his infamous kick against the Patriots.

In the 33-15 loss in New England, with the Giants down 17-7 in the second quarter, Koo lined up for a 47-yard field goal attempt.

But instead of making it a one-score game, his toe slammed directly into the turf about a half-yard before the ball. Koo then stumbled forward, with the Patriots special teams swarming placeholder Jamie Gillan.

That was Koo’s fourth – and penultimate – game for the Giants. He leaves with a record of four of six field goal attempts and 11 out of 12 extra points.

The 31-year-old’s exit comes less than two months after the Giants released another kicker, Jude McAtamney.

That decision came after McAtamney missed two extra points against the Denver Broncos in one of the most crushing defeats of the season.

After the Giants drove down the field to score a touchdown and take a 32-30 lead with 37 seconds left in the game last Sunday, McAtamney failed to convert his second extra point attempt of the game.

That miss left the door open for Denver to quickly move within field goal range to set up a game-winning kick from Will Lutz.

McAtamney missed an earlier extra point in the game after the Giants scored a touchdown to go up 13-0.
