World Darts Championship Mike De Decker once dated Elke Clijsters, sister of tennis legend Kim Clijsters and ex-wife of former Premier League defender Jelle Van Damme
It wasn’t too long ago that Mike De Decker was in the talks for a Premier League spot after he claimed his maiden darting major in the World Grand Prix in October 2024.
De Decker has entered the tournament as an outside underdog, but stunned Luke Humphries in the final to score the biggest win of his career. However, he’s failed to build on that success and has somewhat lost his way this year.
And he’ll be hoping to get back to winning ways on Thursday afternoon as he takes on Kenyan debutant David Munyua on the Ally Pally stage.
Away from the oche, the Belgian star once dated Elke Clijsters, a Belgian tennis professional and winner of Miss Bachelorette Belgium.
Elke hails from a sporting family – her father, Lei Clijsters, represented Belgium in 40 matches, while her sister, Kim Clijsters, is a former World No. 1 in tennis. Despite her efforts, Elke never quite matched her sister’s success during her four-year career.
However, she did meet Belgian footballer Jelle Van Damme, who played for Wolves and Southampton in the Premier League. The couple married and had two children before parting ways in 2016.
Elke returned to the public eye when she was crowned Miss Bachelorette Belgium.
In the reality show, a group of men competed for Elke’s affections, each hoping to win the competition and secure a date with her. She chose Ivan, then 30, but their romance was short-lived.
It was announced that they had split up shortly after the final episode aired. However, in that time she met the Belgian tungsten thrower.
“I do indeed have a new relationship, but we haven’t been together for very long,” Elke revealed to Het Laatste Nieuws following the programme when pressed about De Decker. “We met each other via Instagram about two years ago.
“This year we met for the first time at the beach club Ipanema in Hasselt. Ultimately, we only became a couple some time later.”
Nevertheless, last summer saw Elke confirm she had split from De Decker. “Ask me a question,” Elke shared on her Instagram Stories upon her return from Ibiza.
When one follower enquired: “How are you and Mike?” she replied: “Mike and I have not been together since recently, we are better as friends.”
