LIVE UPDATES: Disturbing cache of images emerges of Bondi Beach alleged gunmen posing with rifles – as photographs are launched of ‘improvised bombs’ for the primary time

Police evidence depicts alleged terrorists posing with guns, IEDs in lead up to Bondi Beach attacks

Accused Bondi Beach gunman Naveed Akram and his father Sajid Akram, 50, allegedly posed for photographs with guns and home-made devices in the lead-up to December 14 terror attack.

The images were included in a statement of facts which was released by a Sydney court on Monday.

The key documents had been suppressed until a NSW Court lifted the suppression order earlier today.

The documents alleged the two men were armed with homemade pipe bombs and an explosive tennis ball bomb which they threw towards the crowd at Bondi as they launched their attack but which did not detonate.

‘Upon parking the vehicle, the accused and (Sajid Akram) removed the IS flags from the vehicle and placed them on the inside of the front and rear windscreen respectively,’ documents stated.

‘Sajid Akram proceeded to remove the three firearms from the vehicle, as well as the pipe bombs and tennis ball bombs, moved towards the footbridge.

‘Upon approaching the footbridge, investigators believe the three pipe bombs and the tennis ball bomb were thrown towards the crowd of people in Archer Park.

‘Preliminary analysis indicates the pipe bombs were made of sealed aluminum piping containing explosives, black powder, and steel ball bearings.

‘The pipe bombs did not detonate, however, preliminary analysis indicates both items were assessed as viable improvised explosive devices.’

In one video, recorded in October, the pair allegedly posed in front of an Islamic State flag and outlined what police would allege was their explanation for the attack at Bondi Beach.

‘The accused is recorded appearing to recite, in Arabic, a passage from the Quran,’ documents stated.

‘Following the recitation, both the accused and (Sajid Akram) speak in English and make a number of statements regarding their motivation for the “Bondi attack” and condemning the actions of “Zionists”.’

The court document also includes key CCTV footage of pair’s movement in the lead up to the alleged offences.

‘Police allege that the accused Naveed and his father, Sajid adhere to a religiously motivated extremist ideology linked to Islamic State,’ the document states.

‘This is demonstrated by their videoed speech and use of Islamic State flags during the attack.

‘There is evidence that the Accused and his father, Sajid Akram meticulously planned this terrorist attack for many months through actions including.

‘i) Making an ISIS inspired video; ii) Making of ISIS flags; iii) Firearms training; iv) Making of pipe bombs and improvised explosive devices; v) Booking of accommodation to act as a staging post; and vi) Transportation of firearms and ammunition for the attack.’

Deputy Chief Magistrate Michael Antrim, who heard Naveed’s matter this morning, said he planned to suppress the names of some survivors of the attack listed in the police statement of facts unless they consented to speaking about their experiences with media outlets.

‘I understand that there is understandable public interest in these proceedings,’ Magistrate Antrim said.

‘Bail is not applied for and is formally refused.’

CCTV images allegedly captured the pair at the scene of the massacre in Bondi on December 12 and then as they left an Airbnb property about 2.16am on the day of the attack.

‘On Monday, October 20 2025 the accused rented a room within a five bedroom house,’ the document stated.

‘This booking was made online through the website Airbnb.

‘About 2.16am, on Sunday, December 14 2025 the accused and his father Sajid Akram, were captured by closed circuit television at the premises.

‘At this time, the accused and Sajid Akram were observed carrying long and bulky items wrapped in blankets. These items were placed into a 2001 silver Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle was registered to the accused.’

Police alleged the men loaded into their vehicle two single barrel shotguns, a Beretta rifle, four homemade improvised explosive devices in brackets, three times, pipe bombs, one times tennis ball bomb, one times large IED bomb, and two Islamic State flags.

They were seen leaving the premises again about 5.09pm.

New unseen Bondi Beach attack footage reveals how people hid from gunmen

New previously unseen footage of the Bondi Beach attack has revealed how people cheated death just a metre from the gunmen.

The new video shows two men, a child, a teenage boy and a female cowering on the steps up to the footbridge (pictured below) where suspected terrorist shooters Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram allegedly fired upon hundreds of innocent people enjoying Hanukkah celebrations.

The terrified group ran for their lives when Sajid appeared at the top of the steps where they had been hiding.

A man was seen shielding the child as shots from the high-powered rifle echoed out.

The men, the child and the woman made a desperate run to cover under the footbridge while the fifth person, who appears to be a teenage boy, sprinted away towards the beach.

Another person wearing a white t-shirt came within inches of Sajid’s gun before that person made a dash down the opposite side of the staircase and out of view.

It appears Sajid momentarily aimed his weapon at the person in the white t-shirt but did not take a shot.

Sajid was shot dead by police moments later. His son was shot and injured but is now facing dozens of charges including 15 counts of murder.

Suspected Bondi Beach gunman moved from hospital to jailhouse

Accused terrorist Naveed Akram, 24, below, has been taken from Royal North Shore Hospital to a correctional centre in a massive security operation.

NSW Police confirmed the transfer on Monday afternoon.

‘Officers attached to Traffic & Highway Patrol, Pol Air, and the Public Order & Riot Squad, have assisted Corrective Services NSW with the transfer of a 24‑year‑old prisoner from a North Shore hospital to a correctional facility today under Operation Shelter,’ a NSW Police spokesperson said.

Akram had been receiving care after he was critically injured in a shootout with police during the Bondi Beach massacre on December 14.

The suspected gunman awoke from a coma two days later and was charged with 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder, committing a terrorist act and 40 counts of causing wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.

Akram previously faced a bedside court hearing the Wednesday just gone, during which he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

Akram’s security contingent, which included unmarked NSW Corrective Services vehicles and police cars, has been present at the hospital since his arrest.

However, the vehicles were notably absent by Monday morning.

Instead, Australian Federal Police helicopters were seen hovering overhead.

It is understood Akram left the hospital with police via a back entrance and was transported to Long Bay prison.

The maximum penalty for committing a terrorist act and murder is life imprisonment.

Akram’s father Sajid, 50, was shot dead by police at the scene.

Australia’s top Palestine protester launches scathing attack on Israel just a week after the Bondi massacre – and makes extraordinary claim about Chris Minns

A Palestinian protester has launched a scathing attack on Chris Minns, claiming the NSW premier was exploiting the Bondi attack to remove the public’s right to protest.

Palestine Action Group spokesperson Josh Lees (below) spoke to media on Monday more than a week after the mass shooting at Bondi Beach where 15 people were shot dead at a celebration of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

Lees said the group was ‘absolutely shocked and horrified’ by the events at Bondi and condemned the two men for the ‘revolting attack of antisemitism and violence’.

‘The people to blame for that attack are those killers who carried it out. Who, in turn, were apparently inspired by the twisted ideology of ISIS,’ Lees said.

‘Anyone who knows anything about ISIS knows that they are completely opposed to the cause of Palestinian liberation and always has been and have violently opposed our movement.

‘We have always, and we re-iterate our complete opposition to all forms of racism, including, of course, antisemitism.’

Lees also took aim at Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming he was waging a ‘concerted campaign’ to link the Bondi Beach attack to the Palestine movement.

‘It is so ludicrous, it’s so deliberately dishonest, and it is so outrageous,’ Mr Lees said.

‘This campaign of lies is coming from, many including Netanyahu himself, the wanted war criminal, who has spent more than two years in the carrying out, or supporting and justifying Israel’s annihilation of Gaza and it’s genocide of the Palestinian people.’

The activist then slammed Chris Minns, claiming the NSW premier was exploiting the tragedy to further his political agenda.

He labelled Minns as a ‘dishonest’ political actor who was trying to take the public’s democratic right to protest away by linking the movement to the ISIS gunmen.

The controversial anti-protest laws would give the NSW police commissioner, when in agreement with Minns, the power to ban protests for three months after a terrorist attack.

The bill allows police to ban protests in an area or across the whole state and gives police the power to remove face coverings.

Under the law, new offences will also be introduced for protesters using certain phrases, with the Premier suggesting it would include ‘globalise the intifada’.

‘Chris Minns knows very well that there is absolutely nothing linking these ISIS gunmen to the Palestine protest movement,’ Mr Lees said.

‘He knows very well that there is nothing linking the spate of other high-profile anti-Semitic attacks, which have targeted the Jewish community, over the past two years, there is absolutely nothing linking any of those to the Palestine protest movement.

‘He knows this because his own NSW police and the Australian Federal Police have said so, very clearly, about what actually motivated those attacks, who orchestrated them and it is nothing at all to do with the Palestine protest movement.

‘Yet, Chris Minns, and unfortunately many in the media, are just regurgitating this complete fabrications and distortions.’

Labor MPs defy Albanese as pressure mounts for Royal Commission into Bondi attack

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is facing mounting pressure from within his own party, as two Labor MPs publicly demand a royal commission into the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

The calls come after Albanese announced a more limited review focused on federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies in response to the violence.

Western Sydney MPs Ed Husic and Mike Freelander have urged the Prime Minister to establish a sweeping Commonwealth royal commission.

‘We need a federal royal commission,’ Husic told The Australian Financial Review on Monday.

‘In the aftermath of the horrific events of Bondi we all need to know not just how this happened – but what we can do to root out extremism, whatever form it comes in.’

Dr Freelander echoed Husic’s concern.

‘It seems to me that there are national issues, so the national government needs to be the one dealing with it,’ he said.

Despite growing calls, Albanese has so far refused to convene a royal commission.

On Sunday, he announced a departmental review led by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet into federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

Opposition Leader Sussan Ley released draft terms of reference for a royal commission on Monday and urged Mr Albanese to reconsider his position and work with the Coalition.

Opposition figures argue the departmental review is inadequate, failing to address the scale of the problem, which includes antisemitism, immigration and Islamic extremism.

Independent Member for Wentworth Allegra Spender, whose electorate covers Bondi, also called for a broader inquiry.

‘I welcome a review, but frankly, this is not good enough,’ she said in response to Albanese.

‘We need a federal and state collective royal commission or that sort of inquiry to get to the heart of what happened last week and what we can learn from it.

‘We have 15 Australians who have died.

‘We owe it to them, and to the Jewish community who were targeted simply because of their religion, to leave no stone unturned to understand what happened and what collectively we can do to give us the best chance that this never happens again.’

Bombshell new details about alleged Bondi Beach gunman to be made public today

More details about the allegations accused Bondi Beach gunman Naveed Akram, 24, below faces will be revealed to the public today.

A magistrate today ruled a police fact sheet detailing the 59 charges Akram is facing including 15 counts of murder will be released to media outlets.

In NSW courts system, fact sheets are usually not released to the media until a plea or finding of guilt.

A temporary order preventing the release of the fact sheet was granted last week to safeguard the names of the survivors.

However, at the Downing Centre Local Court this morning, lawyers for media successfully argued for the order to be scrapped.

The NSW Commissioner of Police and Crown prosecutors did not oppose the release of a redacted copy fact sheet which will suppress certain names.

It’s understood the key documents will be released imminently.

Naveed’s dad Sajid Akram, 50, was shot dead by police at the scene after he had fired his shotgun towards dozens of beach goers.

Gun law reforms introduced into NSW Parliament

The NSW Parliament has been urgently recalled to fast-track sweeping reforms in response to the Bondi Beach terror attack, ushering in major changes to gun laws and placing tough new limits on protests.

MPs are set to pass legislation capping gun ownership at four firearms per person, slashing magazine limits, and reducing licence renewal from five years to just two.

Farmers will also have to join a registered gun club, a requirement that critics call unrealistic and impractical for many in rural Australia.

Police will be empowered to ban public gatherings as soon as any incident is declared an act of terrorism, sparking outrage from civil liberties campaigners.

Despite resistance from Nationals and farming bodies, Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane confirmed the Liberals will support the reforms, virtually guaranteeing the bill will clear Parliament.

‘That is not best practice law-making, particularly in an area as sensitive and consequential as counter-terrorism and community safety,’ Sloane warned, criticising the speed of the reforms.

‘The NSW Liberals will therefore use the parliamentary process in the coming months to ensure these reforms are implemented in a way that genuinely meets their stated objectives.’

The Nationals have roundly rejected the gun laws, slamming them as arbitrary and unlikely to prevent further violence.

NSW Farmers also labelled the changes ‘unworkable,’ insisting the real issue, anti-Semitisn, has not been properly addressed.

Premier Chris Minns has unveiled a crackdown on hate speech, with proposed measures sent to a parliamentary committee for urgent review, especially the phrase ‘Globalise the Intifada’.

‘This slogan is not harmless. It fuels division and glorifies violence, and its consequences are real,’ Minns said.

‘Words that incite hatred can lead directly to bloodshed, and NSW refuses to ignore that link.’

‘Muslim-hater’ charged with trying to trigger fresh Cronulla riots at ‘Middle Eastern bashing day’ makes desperate bid for freedom

The man who allegedly attempted to incite a Cronulla-style riot in the wake of the Bondi Beach massacre has been denied bail.

Queensland barber Ryder Shaw, 20, has appeared in court after being charged with allegedly trying to whip up a riot.

Dressed in a grey t-shirt, Shaw (pictured below) looked down with his hands in his lap as his lawyer Brian Quinn applied for bail on Monday.

Prosecutor Felicia Lay argued he should remain in custody due to the risk of further offending and the seriousness of the alleged offence.

‘The posts included a date and location. It is submitted it was not just a hateful post, but it was encouraging [people to participate],’ she said.

Ms Lay said the police facts allege that Shaw was named as one of the organisers of the event.

The court heard Shaw has been working part-time as a barber on the Sunshine Coast, where he lives with his partner.

He allegedly posted the event details online while in Queensland, before being arrested during a visit to family on the NSW coast, the court heard.

The court heard Shaw allegedly posted on TikTok urging people to attend Cronulla for a ‘Middle Eastern bashing day’.

Mr Quinn said the post quickly went viral, bringing his client to the attention of police.

Mr Quinn argued his client had no prior record, suggesting bail conditions such as residing at one of two Central Coast addresses, being barred from Sydney, reporting to police twice a week and avoiding social media.

However, Magistrate Margaret Quinn said the allegations were very serious and could possibly result in jail time if proven.

‘I don’t know if that young man who [allegedly] killed all those people in Bondi had a record either,’ she said.

‘Inciting people to violence because of race or religion is repulsive.

‘That young man [Shaw] should realise that the person who saved people [at the Bondi shooting] was a Muslim.

‘This young man seems to be a Muslim hater. That is what his text suggests.’

Magistrate Quinn said the alleged offending was made even more serious by the fact ‘feelings are running high at the moment’ and the event details were specified.

‘There is a date involved and a place. They are not just a random declaration to kill or do something to others. It actually sets down a date and place,’ she said.

Magistrate Quinn denied Shaw bail, arguing there was an unacceptable risk of endangering others in the community.

He is next due before court on February 26 next year.

Coalition demands federal Royal Commission to probe the surge in antisemitism

The Coalition has unveiled a proposal for a Commonwealth Royal Commission to investigate the recent surge in antisemitism, stating it would closely scrutinise ministers and departments ‘across all levels of government’.

Shadow Attorney-General Andrew Wallace said the inquiry would be headed by three commissioners: one from the Jewish community with firsthand experience of antisemitism, one with a background in law enforcement and intelligence, and a current or former Supreme Court judge.

‘It would be looking into the rise of antisemitism in this country,’ Wallace said.

‘It would look at things such as online, the media, arts, cultural and education sectors that led to the Bondi attack.

‘It would look at the conduct of ministers’ departments across all levels of government with respect to responding to the rise of antisemitism and the Bondi terrorist attack.’

He emphasised the commission would investigate the roles of radical Islam, far-left and far-right groups, and Neo-Nazi extremism.

‘As would it look at anti-Israel and anti-Zionist attitudes into elevating antisemitic environment in Australia,’ he added.

Wallace said the inquiry would also assess whether Commonwealth and state law enforcement and intelligence agencies collaborated effectively.

‘That is just one of the reasons why it’s so incredibly important that Commonwealth Royal Commission be held,’ he said.

The Coalition also wants the commission to review immigration processes, including the granting of visas and citizenship.

Opposition Leader Sussan Ley blasted the Prime Minister for ‘failing the nation accusing him of refusing to deliver an ‘unqualified apology as [NSW] Premier [Chris] Minns has done’ and rejecting demands for a federal royal commission – a move she says adds ‘insult to injury’ for the Jewish community.

Ley urged the government to recall Parliament, mirroring the response in New South Wales.

‘[Albanese] has failed to respond appropriately to this terrible attack, but there is opportunity to get it right,’ she said.

‘There is a pathway forward and a model of leadership and unity as has been displayed right here in NSW.’

Shadow Minister for the Arts and Jewish MP Julian Leeser, who joined Ley at the victims’ funerals, launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, declaring he ‘never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity’.

He added: ‘The Jewish community of this country cannot survive on the crumbs of this government and appalling Prime Minister, who is always late to the party and who wants the Jewish community of this country to live in his half measures.’

Wife of slain suspected Bondi Beach gunman refuses to accept body of dead husband

The wife of Bondi gunman Sajid Akram has refused to claim his body as it is revealed the killer had been living in Airbnbs in the six months before the attacks.

Sajid was shot dead by police on December 14 after he and his son, Naveed Akram, 24, allegedly opened fire at the Chanukah By The Sea event at Bondi Beach.

The suspected ISIS-inspired attack claimed 15 innocent lives.

Naveed has been charged with 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder and one count of committing a terrorist act.

A week on from the massacre, Sajid’s body remains in the morgue at the coroner’s office.

However, his estranged wife, Venera Akram, wants ‘nothing to do with him’ and has signed his body over to the government for a ‘destitute burial’.

Ms Akram also said Sajid was homeless and had been moving between Airbnbs across Sydney’s southwest in the six months before the terror attack.

His last residence before the shooting was a short-term rental in Campsie.

Family members (below) were escorted away after the shootings.
