Boy, 14, stabbed ‘a number of instances’ in ‘extremely severe incident’ in Plymouth
The teenager suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to hospital after the attack in Plymouth city centre, police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward
A 14-year-old boy is in hospital after being repeatedly stabbed in a “incredibly serious incident” in the heart of Plymouth. Emergency services rushed to the scene near Notte Street and Athenaeum Street on Monday at 6.50pm, where a cordon was set up for several hours while investigations were carried out.
The teenager suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to hospital, where he remains. Devon and Cornwall Police are treating the incident as an isolated case.
The boy continues to receive treatment and his injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to the police. Officers believe there were several people near the scene of the attack and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Marcus Hodges stated: “This is an incredibly serious incident, where a 14-year-old local boy has sustained multiple stab wounds during an assault.
“We understand that an incident of this nature will cause concern within the community, but I wish to provide reassurance that based on the information available to us at this time we are treating this as an isolated incident.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing at pace to identify and locate the suspect in relation to this crime.”
DI Hodges stated: “This incident occurred in the city centre in the early evening, so we believe there were a number of people within the vicinity. I urge anyone who has information that may assist us or witnessed anything in the area including on dash-cam, doorbell or CCTV footage to please get in touch with us.
“There will be an increased policing presence in the area as our investigation continues today.”
