‘Drunk’ England star calls fan a ‘p****’ in stunning footage from ‘Ashes bender’
A viral video has circulated on social media of England cricketer Ben Duckett appearing worse for wear as he admits he doesn’t know where he’s staying and calls a fan a “p****” between Ashes Tests
England’s Ashes embarrassment has continued after a seemingly worse-for-wear Ben Duckett was filmed labelling a fan a “p***k”.
England are already investigating reports that some of their players drank excessively during a break between the second and third Ashes Tests – with England 2-0 down at that point- in the Australian beach town of Noosa on the Queensland coast. They would go on to lose the third Test, meaning they cannot win back the Ashes from their old rivals.
And now, in a video shared on social media, Duckett, who appears to be intoxicated, can be seen talking to a fan, who makes a playful comment about how badly the England cricket team have been playing. The fan asks Duckett if he knows where he’s staying, to which Duckett responds “no”, and asks if he can order him an Uber.
He then jokes that the Uber could take him “to the nets” as he needs some practice with England “2-0 down”. Nottinghamshire star Duckett responds by calling him a “p***k”, which the fan laughs at in response. Duckett then asks the fan “who are you”, and after learning his name, replies “no one knows”.
The fan asks who Duckett is, and he replies “f*** knows”. When the fan says he knows who the 31-year-old cricket ace is, Duckett – who can be heard stumbling over his words – replies “no one knows who you are”. He is then offered another chance to get a taxi, before the fan gives up and admits to his party that they’ll have to leave him.
An ECB Spokesperson told Daily Star Sport: “We are aware of content circulating on social media.
“We have high expectations for behaviour, accepting that players are often under intense levels of scrutiny, with established processes that we follow when conduct falls below expectations. We also support players that need assistance.
“We will not comment further at this stage while we establish the facts.”
Daily Star Sport has also approached Duckett’s representatives for comment.
England director of cricket Rob Key told BBC Sport that reports of players drinking for a significant portion of their four nights in Noosa, and two previous days in Brisbane, were being investigated.
He said: “Headlines can be misleading at times, saying it’s a stag do and stuff like that. Stories of players drinking six days solid – that’s unacceptable.
“We’ll be looking into seeing what the facts are as opposed to the things that have been embellished or elaborated on.”
He added: “When you see a picture of five or six guys sitting down for lunch, a couple of them having drinks, you need to see what’s going on with that,” said Key.
“If it’s true that it became a stag do and people are out drinking all the time excessively, that’s not acceptable. I don’t agree with a drinking culture. I don’t like a drinking culture.”
Key also admitted he previously looked into reports that white-ball captain Harry Brook and batter Jacob Bethell were drinking on the limited-overs tour of New Zealand ahead of the Ashes.
“I didn’t feel like that was worthy of formal warnings, but it was probably worthy of informal ones,” said Key.
“There wasn’t any formal action. We’ve had four years where we’ve had none of these issues really, with any of the players, and there’s a whole process that we put in place for stuff like that – for what you do if they’re out of line.
“That was a bit of a wake-up call for what they’re going into. I don’t mind players having a glass of wine over dinner. Anything more than that, I think is ridiculous.”
