Rasmus Hojlund takes brutal dig at Man Utd and Ruben Amorim after Napoli success

Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund shared ‘what a great decision looks like’ after helping Napoli win the Supercoppa Italiana with a 2-0 victory over Bologna

Rasmus Hojlund aimed a dig at Manchester United after helping Napoli secure the Supercoppa Italiana with a 2-0 victory over Bologna on Monday evening.

David Neres netted both goals in Saudi Arabia to deliver the Italian champions their first success in the competition since 2014. And the Red Devils’ £72m mega flop Hojlund featured for the full 90 minutes in attack as Antonio Conte’s side cruised to triumph.

The striker joined Naples during the summer transfer window on a season-long loan deal that’s anticipated to become a permanent arrangement. It’s understood that the Denmark international’s move to Italy will be made permanent provided certain criteria are fulfilled.

Hojlund managed just four goals for United last campaign and found himself slipping down the hierarchy following Ruben Amorim’s attacking reshuffle. The arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko meant Hojlund was permitted to leave.

Since his switch to Napoli, the 22-year-old has found the net seven times in 19 appearances. Following his starting role for Gli Azzurri alongside Scott McTominay, Hojlund turned to Instagram to have a pop at his parent club, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Sharing a photograph of himself with the silverware, the striker posted: “What a great decision looks like.”

The upload received likes from several of Hojlund’s former United colleagues, including Lisandro Martinez, Chido Obi, Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana. Both Dorgu and Obi also left congratulatory comments on the post.

Following the match, Conte spoke about his team’s performance and echoed Hojlund’s dig at United. “If we look at how many chances we created, we could have been far more effective,” he stated. “We played a great match in every aspect.

“The first goal was a moment of brilliance from a champion; the other situations were carefully designed to put the opponents under pressure with many players around the box.

“Hojlund and McTominay were not playing at Manchester United, so there must be a reason given the work done by me and my staff. I believe our job is to expand a player’s knowledge and make him stronger.

“I invest a lot in that, and I think every player I have worked with has always come out improved technically, tactically, and mentally. We lacked clinical finishing against a strong team, but it remains a great performance, and I can only be happy and proud.”
