Two-year-old boy is killed and 5 persons are significantly injured after their Toyota broke down on main A-road and was hit by one other automobile

A two-year-old boy has died and five people have been seriously injured after their car broke down and was hit on a major A-road. 

The toddler, from London, was inside a Toyota Auris that broke down on the A1 in Cambridgeshire at around 6.20pm on Saturday. 

The Toyota was sitting in a live lane on the northbound carriageway when it was hit by a Volkswagen Touran just past Stibbington Junction. 

Five other people who were in the Toyota were rushed to Peterborough City Hospital with serious injuries. 

Cambridgeshire Police has called for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. 

Sgt David Mcllwhan said in a statement: ‘Our thoughts are with the parents and family of this young child who has tragically lost his life in this collision.

‘The family is being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

‘I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage but was unable to stop at the scene to get in touch.’ 

Anyone with information about the collision should report to the police online quoting incident 401 of December 20.
