Tesco buyers say Christmas dinner is ‘ruined’ as ‘rancid’ turkeys get binned

Several families have complained on social media that their festive feasts were spoiled by the supermarket’s turkeys

The turkey, typically the star of the show at Christmas dinners, has allegedly left some families in despair this year. A number of disgruntled customers have accused Tesco of “ruining” their festive celebrations with reports of “rancid” meat, despite it being within its use-by date.

Beth Mahoney had planned to whip up her Christmas dinner before taking her dog for a walk, but was taken aback by the unpleasant odour that greeted her when she unwrapped her Tesco turkey. She described the smell as so potent it “almost made her sick.”

Beth recounted: “We bought our turkey two days ago, and it was in date until the 27th. When we opened it, there was a really strong odour and the meat smelled awful.”

She added, “On the packaging it said that we had to let it sit and dispate but the smell wouldn’t stop. We put it in the oven in a ditch effort to see if it was just us being sensitive and and the smell made me feel physically ill.

“It was one of the worst things I had ever smelt – it made me want to be sick.”, reports Yorkshire Live.

Other disgruntled customers took to ‘X’ to voice similar grievances. One user, @GR4BRO, shared a photo of a discoloured piece of turkey meat, captioning it: “Tesco Class A turkey’… hmmm. Rancid!”.

Another customer, @Westy_26, expressed his disappointment, tweeting: “Thanks Tesco. Christmas ruined, opened our turkey to cook it and it’s rancid, only bought it Tuesday and has tomorrow’s date. Kids are crying, the wife is crying. Nice one.”

A disgruntled customer, @pearsecassidy, took to social media to vent: “Had to dump out our Tesco turkey today, the smell of it would’ve knocked you out – taking no chances , lucky we had a backup – never again.”

Another unhappy shopper chimed in: “Our Turkey is well manky. Can’t believe it. Christmas ruined right now.”

Tesco has been approached for a response concerning the flurry of complaints about their turkeys.
