Boxing champ Ricky Hatton left big fortune to three individuals from property empire
Manchester boxing legend Ricky Hatton tragically died earlier this year, but new documents show he left a £40million fortune to his three children through his extensive property empire across the UK
Ricky Hatton has left an eye-watering £40million legacy for his three children, having amassed a property empire before his death. The former boxing world champion will look after his family from beyond the grave by investing the proceeds of his career into various business ventures.
Hatton was discovered dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14 by his manager and long-time pal Paul Speak. A comprehensive inquest into his death is scheduled for March 20.
The Mancunian was survived by his children, Campbell, 24, Millie, 13, and Fearne, 12. Documents have revealed that his boxing earnings were put to good use after being channelled into savvy business investments.
These include funding freehold and leasehold flats, developments, and houses in his hometown of Hyde, Greater Manchester, as well as in locations such as Leicestershire, London, and Kent. According to the report, Hatton was resolute in his desire to leave behind a ‘financial legacy’ from his career, according to the Mirror.
Hatton’s heartbreaking demise prompted a nationwide outpouring of grief after he was laid to rest in October. Fans filled the streets of his hometown before a service was held at Manchester Cathedral.
Thousands paid their respects to Hatton, with the cream of British boxing in attendance including Tyson Fury, Tony Bellew and Frank Bruno, along with former England cricket captain Andrew Flintoff and ex-Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney, were among those who attended the cathedral. Hatton’s three children gave heartfelt tributes during the ceremony before the memorial procession made its way to the Etihad Stadium, home to Hatton’s much-loved Manchester City.
Earlier this year, Ricky’s son Campbell reflected on losing his father in a chat with Good Morning Britain, saying: “Yeah, it’s been a bit of a whirlwind the last few weeks. Obviously, we’ve been leading up to the funeral, which was unbelievable to see the amount of love everyone had for my dad.
“There were thousands in the streets, and there was a lot of comfort to take from that. It has been very up and down, really, but just as a family, we’re trying to take each day at a time, really. He always said he was more proud of his fanbase than all the belts and his titles.
“Surprised is probably the wrong word because it was obvious how much he was loved by the amount of people that followed him all over the world to watch him box. To actually see everyone in the streets, it was a very long route that we went down, and there was never a point where the streets weren’t full; to actually see it in terms of the amount of people, it was surreal really.”
In recent months, it was also revealed that Ricky had earned a lot for his various bouts throughout his career. It’s estimated that he received roughly £5million alone for his fight against, Floyd Mayweather and almost double that for his clash with Manny Pacquiao.
But despite him eventually losing these two matches, the boxing star’s stats were phenomenal, having won 45 of his 48 matches. This also helped him rack up an impressive net worth of around £35million at the time of his death.
