A huge fire has erupted in central Glasgow, with streets closed in both directions. Glasgow City Council confirmed that Glassford Street has been closed to all traffic between Ingram Street and Trongate due to a blaze at around 6.40pm on Saturday (December 27).

Pictures from the scene appear to show black smoke, with some outlets suggesting the fire is coming from the House of Gods hotel.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area at this time.

The Daily Star has contacted Scottish Fire and Rescue Services for further information about the incident.

A video taken at the scene of the blaze shows smoke and flames billowing from a roof in the city centre. At least two blue-lit fire engines can be seen parked up on a nearby street while passers-by gather in concern.

Firefighters can be seen carrying their equipment in full gear as they survey the scene. Angry, orange flames continue to pour from the affected area.

Another video taken at the scene this evening shows the inferno taking hold of what appears to be a rooftop.

Plumes of thick, black smoking burst from the area while orange flames lick the sides of the building.

Sirens and concerned chatter from pedestrians and motorists below can be heard in the background of the video.
