Aldi confirms New Year’s closure this week – and when shops will reopen
People have been urged to check before they travel to the store to avoid disappointment
Aldi is issuing a reminder to customers about its store opening times in the run-up to New Year 2026. As the countdown to the new year begins, shoppers are being encouraged to stock up on essentials and prepare for their New Year’s celebrations in advance.
Now, with the festive season almost behind us, Aldi stores have reopened after staff were given time off to spend Christmas with friends and family. The supermarket chain has confirmed that it will be closed on January 1.
Normal trading hours will continue until New Year’s Eve. The supermarket, named by Which? as the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for four consecutive years, is urging customers to visit their local store if they need to by 6pm on Wednesday, December 31 or wait until Aldi reopens on January 2.

Aldi’s Specialbuys
As The Mirror reported, the much-loved budget supermarket will see a change to its popular middle aisle. This is because this year, Christmas fell on a Thursday. Regular Aldi shoppers may be confused about how this affects the supermarket’s middle zone.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “The next Specialbuy release is scheduled for Sunday, December 28, so we’ll see new stock landing after the Christmas period.
“For the following week, Specialbuys will be released on Friday, January 2, and Sunday, January 4.” With no further festive bank holiday disruptions, normal SpecialBuy releases are expected to resume from Thursday, January 8. People can stay up to date on planned releases by looking online here.
