Big Fat Quiz Of 2025 leaves viewers ‘disgusted and saddened’ simply minutes into broadcast – with Channel 4 urged to ‘do higher’

Viewers watching Big Fat Quiz of 2025 were left far from impressed – with Channel 4 was urged to ‘do better’ just minutes into the broadcast.

Hosted by Jimmy Carr, the Boxing Day instalment tested a celebrity panel’s knowledge of 2025.

The teams comprised Katherine Ryan & Roisin Conaty, Jonathan Ross & Nick Mohammed, as well as Lou Sanders & Richard Ayoade.

Early in the episode, the group looked back on one of the year’s biggest social media trends: creating an AI Barbie doll of yourself.

These were seen all over Instagram, featuring a boxed miniature doll along with items that the person in question regularly uses.

Jimmy, 53, showed off action figures including himself (featuring different faces), Katherine (with a Botox needle), Nick (with two magic wands) and Lou (with healing crystals).

However, some fans were left very displeased with the show’s use of AI, as one wrote: ‘Disgusted and saddened to see The Big Fat Quiz of the Year using AI to generate gag doll images.

‘Images so half-assed that nobody checked the output.

‘One of them has two magic wands that don’t look like wands, and Jimmy’s is a recycled tax joke from five years ago.’

Another added: ‘I’ve watched #BigFatQuiz for at least ten years, and five minutes in the shows using AI? way to lose a fan base damn.’

A third chimed in: ‘Not even 5 mins in and they’re doing ai slop trends on big fat quiz of the year.’

A fourth remarked: ‘Opening big fat quiz of the year with AI … channel 4 do f*****g better.’

It’s not the first time that Big Fat Quiz viewers have expressed disappointment in the programme.

Fans previously criticised the ‘uncomfortable’ format last year and claimed the show hadn’t been made accessible for blind comedian Chris McCausland.

During the episode, several questions required the contestants to look at pictures and videos to answer the questions.

The images had to be described to Chris by his teammate Maisie, which viewers felt put him at an unfair disadvantage in the competition.

At one point, host Jimmy even remarked on how unjust the picture round was, saying: ‘We are about to have what I can only describe as a very insensitive round Chris…it’s time for Say What You See.’

Rob Beckett quipped: ‘Just write nothing and you’ll get points.’

But despite not being able to see the visual cues, Chris was the first celebrity guest to guess the picture round correctly, with his teammate Maisie being ‘his eyes’ for the round.

Despite being unable to see the visual cues, Chris was the first contestant to guess the picture round correctly after Maisie described the image to him.

While Chris did not seem to mind the disadvantage, viewers bemoaned the lack of inclusivity and shared their thoughts on X.

They said: ‘The further into the Big Fat Quiz of the Year it gets the more glaringly obvious it is that there have been zero adaptations for Chris and it’s just getting more and more uncomfortable’;

‘Big Fat Quiz of the Year showing itself up by inviting Chris McCausland on as a panellist then not giving him a proper audio description or adjusting the quiz itself to be inclusive… clearly showing the difference between diversity and inclusion at least’;

Channel 4 told Daily Mail at the time: ‘The production team consulted Chris McCausland in the weeks ahead of recording to confirm which adjustments he would find helpful for ‘The Big Fat Quiz’ and we are happy that Chris’s preferences were respected.’
