Anthony Joshua says he is ‘in searing ache’ as he provides replace after horror crash
Anthony Joshua was hospitalised with minor injuries as a passenger in a road traffic accident in Nigeria on Monday, with two people losing their lives in the collision
Anthony Joshua says he feels pain ‘all over his body’ after a high-speed crash that hospitalised him and killed two of his friends.
The former world heavyweight boxing champ had a miraculous escape from Monday’s crash in Nigeria which killed close pals Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
Sources close to the British fighter, 36, told The Sun he will remain in hospital into the New Year. They revealed he had ‘searing pain’ in his knees but tests revealed no fractures.
The star will remain in hospital while medics keep an eye on him and carry out further tests over the next few days.
Joshua’s promoters Matchroom declined to detail his injuries last night but said: “Anthony is in a stable condition and will remain there for observation.”
It comes as the Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria has disclosed the cause of a deadly collision. Officials have now shared initial findings about the accident, which involved a black Lexus SUV carrying Joshua as a passenger and a stationary lorry.
In an official statement, the FRSC said: “Preliminary reports from the Ogun Sector Command indicate that the crash occurred at about 1200HRS and was promptly reported to the Corps. FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within three (3) minutes of notification, enabling swift rescue operations, evacuation of victims, effective traffic control, and prevention of secondary crashes.
“The incident involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck with unknown registration number. A total of five adult males were involved in the crash.
“Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries. The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were conveyed to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu.
“The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) was duly notified for further investigation and necessary documentation. Preliminary findings indicate that the Lexus Jeep, which was suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit on the corridor, lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and crashed into a stationary truck well packed by the side of the road.”
In the wake of the crash, mobile phone footage circulating on social media showed a visibly shaken Joshua being helped out of the twisted wreckage, as reported by the Express. The videos also revealed that the 36 year old had been seated in the back of the SUV, which was carrying four other adult males at the time of the accident.
The FRSC confirmed that five individuals were involved in the collision, with two declared dead at the scene. Joshua was swiftly transported to hospital for immediate medical attention, while the remaining two passengers astonishingly emerged unscathed.
A statement from the Ogun State Police read: “Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident today – Monday December 29, 2025, at about 11am, in Makun, Ogun State. The incident occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, just before Danco Filling Station, near the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis.
“The vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua, a Lexus SUV, was involved in the accident under circumstances that are currently being investigated. He was seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and receiving medical attention.
“Tragically, two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives at the scene. The deceased have been conveyed to Livewell Hospital Morgue, Sagamu.
