Newton hospital incident as ‘5 individuals injured’ after ‘man assaults with a metallic bar’

A major incident has seen police swarm a hospital after reports of five people being injured as eyewitness claim to have seen a man with a metal bar.

The incident occurred at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows today (December 30) with eyewitnesses speaking to the MEN claiming to see a man with a metal bar attacking staff and patients.

However, police are yet to confirm the details of the incident except that one man in his 20s has been arrested.

According to witnesses, the incident began around 12pm and police currently remain on the scene.

St Helen’s Police posted on X: “We are currently dealing with an incident at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows. A man in his 20s has been arrested.

“Officers remain at scene. We will provide a further update as soon as available. Please follow our social media accounts for updates.”
