  • Uganda’s Struggles: Uganda were forced to use three goalkeepers in their final group-stage match of AFCON against Nigeria.
  • Injury blow: Already 1-0 down, Uganda lost their starting goalkeeper Denis Onyango to injury with Denis Salim coming on as his replacement
  • Red card nightmare: Just 12 minutes after coming on, Salim was shown a straight red card for a deliberate handball outside of his area.
  • Third goalkeeper introduced: Having lost another shot-stopper, Uganda were forced into another change with Nafian Alionzi coming on for midfielder Baba Alhassan.
  • Nigeria’s triumph: The Super Eagles went on to win 3-1 and secured a perfect group stage record (3 wins from 3 games). Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, followed by a quick-fire double from Raphael Onyedika in the second half.
  • Some Uganda joy: Rogers Mato was on target for Uganda in the second half, but that was merely a consolation goal
  • Tournament Outcome: Nigeria have subsequently advanced to the Round of 16 as group leaders. Uganda finished bottom of Group C and have been eliminated from the tournament.
