New Year’s celebrations start as tiny island of over 1,500 first to enter 2026
The world has begun its New Year’s celebrations as a tiny island in the Indian Ocean becomes the first nation to enter 2026.
Christmas Island, which is an Australian external territory, and its population of around 1,692 people have begun welcoming in the New Year.
Although a Australian territory, It’s population is mainly a mix of Chinese, Malay, and European descent, with English, Malay, and Mandarin spoken,
The celebrations comes as some cities have cancelled events due to significant concerns raised by local authorities.
Events in Sydney, Paris , Tokyo and others have all been cancelled. Even parts of Russia have cancelled celebrations.
