New Year’s Eve homicide probe as man, 34 seems in courtroom over loss of life of girl, 65

A 34-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 65-year-old woman on New Year’s Eve. Police attended a property in Maple Gardens in Yateley, Hampshire, at 9.40am on Wednesday, December 31, after receiving a report that Janet Bowen had been found dead at the address.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “Her family have been informed and are being supported by officers.” Michael Bowen, of Maple Gardens, Yateley, appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with her murder.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on a date to be confirmed. Hampshire Constabulary said: “Police were called at 9:40am on Wednesday 31 December to a report that 65-year-old Janet Bowen had been located deceased at an address on Maple Gardens in Yateley.
“Her family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
“Officers from our Major Crime Team have today charged Michael Bowen, 34, of Maple Gardens, Yateley with murder.
Elsewhere in Manchester, a man has been charged with murder following the alleged stabbing of a man on New Year’s Eve.
Anthony Junior Murray, a 25-year-old man of Tarn Drive, Bury, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement today. Mr Murray was remanded in custody and is set to appear Manchester Magistrates Court this morning.
A 24-year-old man, named in court documents as Joe Burton, tragically died at the scene. GMP says the investigation remains ongoing.
Images from Tarn Drive show a cordon remains in place on part of the street. A forensic tent is in place, with photographic evidence being gathered.
A woman in her 20s was arrested on suspicion of murder, but has since been bailed pending enquiries.
GMP is appealing for information following the incident and urged the public to contact via 101 or their Live Chat feature on the GMP website, quoting log 3529 of 31.12.2025. “This includes any CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from around the area,” police said.
